Greetings from Guy Shoesmith
West Hill Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

This is your final chance to sign up for the fantastic Titleist personalised ball deal - IT ENDS TODAY THURSDAY 17 APRIL!!!! Buy 4 dozen balls for the price of 3 with FREE personalisation. Click here to order yours. Mike Graves demonstrated again the double value of this order as this week he was presented with another one of his new Pro V1's discovered in the heather - this time by David Mills!

If you would like to try a fantastic new ball then this 4 for 3 offer with FREE PERSONALISATION is also running on the new TaylorMade Tour Preferred Ball. This is their 5 layer tour ball which replaces the Lethal and is used by Justin Rose and Guy Shoesmith. Click here to order.

Last week Patrick custom fitted Gordon Harris for a new 5 wood. He was looking for something to fit a yardage gap precisely and this is where the Flightscope radar ball tracking device was able to measure so accurately. The Basra lite shaft in the Adams was too soft for him but the regular Basra shaft did the job perfectly.

Yesterday I found an extra 17 yards of length for John Forrister with a 7 iron and his own clubs are only a year old!!!! This was by fitting a better shaft for him and also giving him one simple improvement to his technique. This week Patrick is doing club comparisons on the Flightscope with five more members to see if the latest technology gives better results than their current equipment. Click here if you would like to have a go for FREE with no obligation to purchase.

We have also just received the fantastic new Tour Edge Exotics XCG7 which comes in a standard driver or a smaller headed Beta 440 cc driver. Compare these two drivers against the TaylorMade SLDR and JetSpeed, the Titleist and your own.

Mark was struggling badly with his putting alignment. He popped into the shop to look at new putters but I asked to inspect his old putter. I immediately identified that his putter grip was not on square. ( The flat front on a putter grip should be perpendicular to the putter face .) We put a new SuperStroke putting grip on and I gave him one simple tip to connect the alignment of his hands with the putter face - the result - instantly 100% more confidence and better alignment for the cost of a new grip!

We need another 20 members teams for the West Hill Pro/Am on friday 27th June. This is a fantastic day to play our course with a top South of England Professional am or pm followed by Brendan's amazing lunch or dinner with great prizes. The greens will be their fastest all year. Make up a team of three members or invite two guests.

STOP PRESS - I have had a team drop out of the Princes pro/am on Sunday 27 April 9.30am shotgun. Would a team of 3 members like to save me and join me for the day - cost is £110 each. Click here

West Hill Members on Tour

Here is a report from Malcolm Johnson "This is the second year going to St. Malo by overnight ferry on the tour organised by Donald Leggett. The players are Donald, Will Longmuir, Greg Trigg, John Hughes, Mark Watts and Malcolm Johnson. We played at Dinard, St. Malo country Club and Pleneuf-Val Andre. All very nice but Pleneuf was quite tiring. Mark played very nicely and went on to win the Norma Trophy. Good golf, good food and good fun."

This week the Captain and Pro were challenged by Richard Bolton and Rob Guilfoyle. With a 12.00 start we were treated to a fantastic Brunch by Brendan before the off. Richard and Rob played very well and were only four over par when they stood on the 17th tee one down. But the Captain's putting was fantastic as he holed six footers for birdies on 12, 13 and 15 to take us from two down thru 11 before we sealed the match with a par on 17.

Greg, myself and Donald
On Sunday I played with Will Longmuir, Greg Trigg and Donald Leggett. Unfortunately Will had to retire after 5 holes with an injured knee so Dr Sellars please get it sorted for him ASAP! I then played against the Betterball of Greg and Donald but they dovetailed very well and a gross 69 was not good enough as they beat me 3&2.

Click here if you have not played with me ever or for a while to play on one of the following dates

  • Thursday 8 May
  • Wednesday 9 July,
  • Sunday 13 July,
  • Sunday 7 Sep,
  • Friday 17 Oct.

Congratulations to Max O'Hagan who won the Stableford on Saturday with 38 points and was cut from 2 to 1. Jon Yates lost on countback but was also cut from 10 to 9, and Martin Thomas won division 2 and was cut from 13 to 12. In division 1 Rowan Gillespie was third with 37 pts and Mike Phillips fourth with 35 pts. In division 2 Dave Roberts was second on countback with Merfyn Roberts third on 33 pts and David Alvis fourth with 32 points.

Well done also to Tom Wall who won the weekday Stableford on Thursday with 37 points and was cut from 9 to 8. Alex Morrison was second with 35 pts beating Will Longmuir on count back.

Last Wednesday Cliff was invited to a farewell brunch followed by golf with The Weightsomes. Our President, Mike Wescott-White was very complimentary of Cliff's long service to West Hill and he was presented with a Weightsomes tie. Rodney Bole thought he had the upper hand in his match against Cliff by plying him with red wine at the brunch but was not amused when he still had to pay Cliff the bet as well as the wine bill! Due to the huge sign up of members for Cliff's leaving do on Thursday 24 April the golf will now be a shotgun start at 2pm followed by a Thai curry . Click here if you would like to join us and haven't signed up yet.

Congratulations to our Surrey Fives a team of Mark Randall, Jeremy Walmisley, Daryl Ware, John Scurlock-Davies and Tim Christopher who beat Wentworth A, 3 matches to 2 over the West Course. Great result, well played all, special mention for Daryl who, finding himself “Dormy 2 Down”, par’s 17, 18 & the first extra hole to win his match and effectively the tie! The next round will be away to either The RAC or Milford.

Well done to Anne Abrahamsen who won the weekday medal with 37 points playing with her new TaylorMade driver following the club comparison day two weeks ago!! Second was Hilary Ashton with 33points and third Diana Marchant with 32 points.

Congratulations to Max Walmisley who won the Junior Stableford last Thursday with 37 points and was cut from 30 to 29.
