Coaching News

Ian
Edwards made some fantastic improvements in just one coaching session last week. He was swaying his hips slightly in the takeaway causing a slightly tilted position at the top of the backswing (left picture). By changing this to a rotation around a fixed central point he achieved a much more powerful coil ( right picture) which immediately gave him more power, distance and stopped the pull shot to the left - the result 38 points and a competition win!!!! (See results below in Members News).

For immediate improvements to your golf click here and talk to us about a session in the Swing Studio.

Don't forget if you are busy at weekends I coach on a Wednesday from 5pm to 9pm on the simulator in the Swing Studio and Greg does similar on a Monday evening.

Custom fitting

A few weeks ago Paul Prentice came for a fitting on the new Hybrids & Fairways in store. After an initial check to establish the distances he was hitting his 4 iron & his current Hybrid, 3 & 5 wood we saw that there wasn't an ideal increase in yardage.

After trying all that is on offer from Mizuno, TaylorMade & Titleist we found two ideal clubs. Firstly the Titleist 816 H2 Hybrid, this club gave an increase of 5 yards over his previous Hybrid which was then the same distance as his old 5 wood, but most importantly an even yardage increase from his 4 iron.

The second club was the Titleist 915 F 3 wood, by giving Paul a little more loft (16.5*) we managed to increase the launch & spin rate to increase the carry & total yardage. This was also a club that Paul felt comfortable hitting from the tee & a tight fairway which he didn't feel he could do consistently with his old 3 wood.

If you would like to compare the new technology against your current equipment click here to make an appointment.

Ashley's Technology Corner - New TaylorMade OS Putters

Not only do we have a brand new and exclusive range of Scotty Cameron Putters on hand for trial use but we've just received the new 2016 TaylorMade OS Putters for members to come in and try as well!

The new OS & OS CB putters, a larger, high moment of inertial (MOI) design including an expanded sweet spot and improved alignment system. The latest in putter stability innovation from TaylorMade comes in both OS (Over Size) and CB (Counter Balance) designs. The OS models feature slightly larger head sizes than traditional putters while also delivering a greater stability at impact and MOI. The featured counterbalance technology helps to stabilise and smooth the putting stroke for more consistency and confidence.

Come into our West Hill Store today and try one out for yourself!

Members news

Well done to Ian Edwards who won Division 1 of the Weekday Stableford on Friday with 38 points and HOORAY he had a great swing coaching session just a few days before - check out coaching news above!!! Alistair Lines was second with 37 points beating Jamie Potter (who had also just had some coaching!!) on countback. Pros news

Two weeks ago I played a friendly fourball with new member Chris Robbins, John Gilkes who joined just over a year ago and Howard Ashton. Here are a few words from John Gilkes...

"It has taken me a long time (but not as long as Howard's 34 years) to get to play with Guy, but this provides me with an opportunity to say a sincere thank you to all those members who have made Jan and me feel so warmly welcomed during our first year at West Hill. It is interesting to reflect how the course was suffering twelve months ago and how the dedication and sheer hard work of Ben and his team has transformed matters through the extensive programme of remedial action and recent investment. Thank you to all involved in returning the course to excellent condition. One small downside is that I am not able to claim adverse course conditions as an excuse for Chris and I having to pay Guy and Howard their well-earned winnings!"

I would love to play with any new members and members with whom I have never played. If you would like to join me for a friendly fourball on any of the following dates click here.

Pro Am

Thanks to all those who supported our Surrey PGA Annual Awards Dinner and Pro/Am on Tuesday. We had 11 pro/am teams from West Hill on a magnificent day competing in two concurrent shotgun events at Hankley Common and Hindhead Golf Clubs.

At Hindhead Golf Club the West Hill Team of Julien Payne, Ed Shanley, Stephen Lewis and Andy Raitt stormed to victory winning by 3 clear points with 91 points.

At Hankley Common Golf Club Mark Turner, John Todd and Andrew Smith came third with 83 points, missing out on winning by a single shot!

The Surrey PGA Annual Awards Dinner was held at The Brooklands Museum at Weybridge which provided a fantastic atmosphere for our 200 guests. I made a small speech in my role as Chairman thanking everyone for their support which crucially enables us to raise funds to host a Surrey PGA Assistants and Trainees Championship amongst other things.

We were entertained by comedian Rod Woodward, who was excellent and to top the evening Julien Payne won the heads and tails competition to win a Sun Mountain 4 wheel push trolley and bag.

Not to be topped Toddy, who had enjoyed his evening immensely, then won one of the silent auction items and will be taking his wife on a special weekend trip away to John O' Groats - just 516 miles and an eleven and a half hour drive from West Hill!!!"

Well done to Jan Gilkes, Chris Elliott and Sian Thomas who won the Waltz on Wednesday with 73 points. Second and pipped by a point were Julie Wilding, Rachel Atterbury and Rosemary Wallis.
