With the Spring Equinox this weekend, we now have more daylight than darkness and when we wind our clocks forward next weekend we will have lots more time for evening golf! And guess what - it's only 3 weeks until The Masters. The form horses are currently Bubba Watson and Adam Scott but Rory is looking close to his best too. We still have about 30 tickets left for the Masters Sweepstake if you'd like to join in the fun.
Amazingly, every single member must be satisfied with the length they achieve with their driver and fairway woods as not a single person has taken up our TEN YARD CHALLENGE for us to increase your distance by 10 yards using the Flightscope and new technology to fit the perfect club for you!
If you would like to have some fun and take up this FREE challenge we have some times available this Saturday or at my time to suit you CLICK HERE.
Alternatively if you don't know how far you hit your wedges we are offering a FREE WEDGE GAPPING SERVICE FOR THE NEXT FOUR WEEKS. It only takes about 15 minutes in the Swing Studio and the Flightscope will tell you your exact yardage gaps between each wedge. This week sees the exciting launch of the new Titleist SM6 Vokey Wedges. We have a full selection of demo wedges with all the different loft, bounce and grind options to try - Read Ashley's article here about the revolutionary new technology.
Coaching in The Swing Studio
Mark Turner has been making some simple but great improvements to his swing in preparation for the new season. Here you can see how his wrists are hinging the club more effectively in the right hand picture.
This simple change results in a top of the backswing position which is more loaded into the right leg with more width of the hands at the top of the back swing as you can clearly see in the right picture again. The end result - straighter, more powerful shots and a smile on Mark's face!!!
I have one space left for any member who would like to join me for a friendly fourball tomorrow afternoon, Friday, at 1pm. click here if you would like to join me.
I also have two spaces for a friendly fourball with me next Saturday afternoon 26th March. I would love to play with as many different members as possible so if you are free please contact me. More dates will be coming next week.
Congratulations to Nick Taylor and Jon Yates who won the Bedser Foursomes on Sunday with 35 points.
After a 90 minute fog delay, it was a very tight call but the foursome format ensured everyone was safe from the outset and luck was on our side as it soon cleared to give full visibility.
In a very tight scoring day Chris Harnett & David J Mills and Alistair Lines & Chris Salmon were pipped on countback.
The Captain and Pro had a busy week last week.
First we had a Steak and Claret Challenge on Friday afternoon by Alex Forbes and Jon Yates. Jon renamed this 'The Scrapheap Challenge' on account of all three of the amateurs having new ceramic hips and the pro having had a hip arthroscopy!!!
The golf was very good with Alex and Jon shooting gross 74 playing foursomes.
The Captain and Pro had two putts from just off the 17th green to square the match when the pro realised he had played the wrong TaylorMade 5 from the cross heather two shots earlier.
Grrrrrr loss of hole and match over - the ball had a much larger identifying mark in the next match!!!
Then on Sunday we were challenged by Derek Plumstead and John Pittard.
The scoring was again excellent on both sides and I'm pleased to report that the Captain and Pro recorded their first win when the Captain rolled in a 20 foot birdie putt at the 15th to go 4 up at which point we were only two over par for the holes completed!!!
Well done David!
Funniest quote of the day came from Derek's son James who was caddying for Dad and did a great job except for just off the first tee, when after watching both our tee shots, said " I'm caddying for you now Guy!"
Other members have also been very busy in the last week.
Here is a picture of Adrian Cotton taken by Bill Wormald, who spotted him running in the Woking Half Marathon last weekend.
Adrian does both feet in contact with the ground simultaneously count as power walking or were you just slowing down to pose for the camera?
Seriously though, congratulations, a great achievement.
Congratulations to our Mail on Sunday team of Julie Wilding, Heather Thwaites, Sian Thomas, Liz Hooper and Janet Lea who comfortably won their match against Sunbury GC 4-1 on Saturday.
