Custom Fitting in the Swing Studio 

Last week Val Owen came for an iron fitting, her previous set was Tour Edge which she had been playing with for about 5 years. We started with the Tour Edge 7 iron to see how they performed in terms of total distance, pitching distance & spin rate. We then started with the Mizuno range & found the new EZ 7 iron flew 8 yards further & had a slight increase in spin rate which helped with the flight of the ball.

Next up was the new M2 & Kalea from TaylorMade, of these two models the Kalea out performed all the others as it gave an increase of 9 yards, this is even more impressive as it was achieved with an 8 iron.

As you know I would like to play golf with every West Hill member. Two of the next 3 dates are now filled but I would like to play a friendly fourball on Friday 29 April at 1.20pm. Click here if we haven't played together and you would like to join me. 

Obviously far more important than the Green Jacket, we had our first staff match last week for the Claret Jug.

As you can see Greg came out on top so Ashley and myself are back in training for the next match. Ashley bounced back to qualify for the PGA South Region Assistants championship and I need to do some putting practice!

I hope I can hit top form as this week the Captain and I have three challenges from Barry Goss & Peter J Robinson, Rod Curry & Tim Evans and David Duncan & Kaj Abrahamsen - reports to follow!

John Slater won the seniors Spring Stableford with 37 points pipping Stephen Lewis on countback with George Fergusson third with 36 points. John said in his speech that this was his first senior's competition and with the lunch we had just had, however did we all manage to look so slim? Whereupon Rodney Bole said, 'Well not all of us do!' Well done also to George Fergusson who won the Seniors Winter Fourball playing with David J Mills.

"I am out for a few days holiday golf in Florida with my son, Stuart, and we played with Calum Mackay yesterday! Calum played around the Par 72 Stoneybrook GC course in 67!! Including an eagle 2 at the par 4 second hole and a 340 yard drive at the 16th. Quite a talent!"

All you guys getting ready for the Gold Medal had better get down to the West Hill practice range! 




Well done Nigel O'Hagan who won the Club Stableford with 38 points. Second was Greg Mackay with 35 points with Paul Prentice 3rd on countback. Neil Blick won Div 2 with 34 points from David Jones on countback with Chris Smith 3rd with 33 points.

This Saturday is The Ferney Cup Qualifier and PGA National Pro/Am Qualifier. The winner will go with me to the PGA South Region Final at Walton Heath on Tuesday 21 June to play a fourball Betterball Stableford and the winners of that day go to the National Final, all expenses paid, at Vila Sol, Vilamoura on 22/23 September. Entry fee on Saturday is £7 for Ferney + £2 optional for PGA Pro/Am Qualifier. 




Well done to Heather Thwaites who featured in the coaching news in the last couple of weeks and won the Weekend Stableford with 35 points. Second on countback was Lynne Daniel with Sarah McNaught third with 34 points. 


 

Men's Spring Invitation

The West Hill Pro/Am 

Entries are now open for the West Hill Pro /Am, Friday, June 24 2016 . This is your chance to enter as a team of three members, or invite two guests to join you, or enter individually. I will pair you up with one of the top 30 PGA Professional's in the South of England and the course will be at it's absolute best, with the greens running faster than any other day of the year. 

A fantastic three course dinner after play is also included, as well as £2,000 worth of amateur prizes. You can choose to play morning or afternoon. The cost is £315 for a team.
