This week's exciting news is that world ranked player No 44, Matthew Fitzpatrick, is playing in The West Hill Pro/Am on Friday 24 June. Two more pros who will be here on the day, James Ablett and Guy Woodman, are also competing in the PGA Championships at Wentworth this week too. We would love to have members volunteer to do some ball spotting or maybe operate a leaderboard on course so if you would like to spectate and can help out please click here. With it completely full with 50 teams and 200 players it promises to be a great day.
- Monday 27 June 3pm- 7pm Mizuno Demo Day / Fitting Day
- Tuesday 28 June 3pm - 7pm TaylorMade Demo Day / Fitting Day Ladies, Seniors, Left Handers, or anyone looking to try different lofts or shafts.
Here is a testimonial from Andrew Straszewski about his fitting.
"The TaylorMade M2s replace Callaway Big Bertha irons which are less than 2 years old. The Callaways were bought after a short indoor hitting session at a large retailer because they seemed to offer the promise of more distance but I never felt comfortable with them - particularly as far as the mid-irons were concerned. The benefit of the 90 minute session with Greg were not subtle. We tried many different clubs and shaft combinations. So far the results speak for themselves. I am hitting irons with confidence again."

I have 21 members joining me for the Member's Day out to Sunningdale GC on Tuesday 11 October and only two places remaining!! Alphabetically they are Alan Arscott, Nick Cobb, Gareth Davies, David Duncan, Jeremy Evans, Jonathan Hewett, Stuart Kerr, Nick Millar, Riccardo Nardelli, Martin Oliver, Mark Randall, Doug Roach, Ed Shanley, Chris Smith, Keith Stanley, Andrew Straszewski, Mark Turner, Darren Warmington, Ben Wilkinson, Alistair Wooster and last but not least Kevin Young!!!
Congratulations to Tim Cleminson and John Pittard who won the Tommy Martin Foursomes Qualifier with 35 points, beating Mike Coulson and Jon Yates on countback. With 16 pairs qualifying for the Matchplay stages, the unlucky pair in 17th were Tom Keelan and Jim Meaney who, with 28 points, were pipped on countback by Rob Guilfoyle and Alex Morrison.
I played in The Captain's Roll Up yesterday and played with Anthony Mills, who I have not played with before and Alistair Wooster.
In only his second appearance at the Captain's Roll-up Alistair Wooster played nicely to his handicap of six to win with a stableford score of 36 points. Four players recorded 35 points and were separated only after a countback over the last nine which resulted in Bill Wormald's 24 points earning him second place, Neil Blick's 22 points placing him third, Andrew Williams' 20 points getting him fourth and Chris Barber's 18 putting him fifth. Neil's third place was worth three eclectic points to give him a five point advantage over George Fergusson in the annual competition.
Anthony said he'd had his worst round ever at West Hill except when he drove it 50 yards further on the 18th after a swing tip from the pro. His comment on this was "I guess you waited until the 18th to tell me because the loser buys the wine Guy!".
I would like to play with all members of the club so if you would like to join me in a friendly fourball on Thursday 16 June at 13.04 or Thursday 23 June at 13.28 then click here.
Congratulations to Rod Curry and Phil Curry (Eton GC) who won the Men's Spring Invitation on Friday with 76 points. They pipped Daniel McDonagh and Chris White ( Farnham GC) and Greg Mackay and Alan Healy (Wentworth) on countback. AM prizes went to Grwg Gould and Paul Davis (Montrose GC) and Rob Pike and Kerry Scott (Copthorne GC) both with 43 points. Betterball and PM prizes to Peter Yearsley and Richard Light (Wellon GC) and Bob Douglas and Alun George (Kingswood GC) both with 35 points foursomes.
Well done to Jimmy Sweetzer who continued his amazing run of foursomes form by winning the Over 50's Foursomes on Monday with Steve Weait. After winning the Dinner Trophy and the Burford Pro/Am Foursomes in the last two weeks maybe he is in the handicap committee's firing line?
Here is a match report from John Watts
"West Hill beat Hayling today in the 1st Round of the Parkstone trophy, a scratch seniors foursomes event. The match score was 6-4 against a side who had been finalists twice in the last 4 years. The team was Paul Baldwin, Kevin Barkham, Nick Cobb, Kamran Etebar , Bob James, Peter Oakes, Mark Randall, Peter Robinson, Jim Sweetzer, Warwick Taylor and John Watts. Next round we face either Hockley or Hankley Common."
Congratulations to Janet James who won the Spring Challenge Cup for the best net score at The Spring Meeting with 72 and cut her handicap to 13. She also won the Barclay Cup for the best score by a Past Ladies' Captain.
Well done to Kay Bowman who had the best scratch score of the day - 84. Well done to Chris Elliott who won the Harding Cup with a brilliant nett 67 pipping Stephanie Davies by one shot. Stephanie's consolation was that she won Division 2 by a massive 14 clear shots with Veronica Putley second with nett 83 and Liz Hooper third with nett 85. In Division 1 Lynne Daniel was second with nett 70 and Helen Atkinson third with nett 77.
Karen Johnson is marking at the PGA Championships at Wentworth all week.
