Custom Fitting in the Swing Studio 

West Hill member, Gareth Davies, came for a fitting for new wood and irons. Using Flightscope radar ball tracking technology we discovered that he hit the Titleist 915 woods and the TaylorMade M2 irons with the best distance, consistency and spin rates. With the course in magnificent condition and the rhododendrons in full bloom, Captain's Day with a full field promises to be a great day on Sunday. As usual we have the Beat The Pro Challenge on the course in the morning with Ashley on the 13th hole and me on the 4th hole. Remember this is a NO LOSE GAMBLE so bring your cash onto the course. Whatever cash amount you stake we will credit your account in the pro shop with this amount so you do not lose it. However if you hit your tee shot onto the green closer than the pro's shot, we will double your amount staked as account credit. (You may not enter if your account is overdrawn.) And remember your swing will be videoed for all to see during lunch!!! The Captain is also adding an extra prize this year to the pair who return the highest number of pine saplings at the end of the day. (They are self-seeding in very high numbers in the heather this year and Gina has already sent an email asking members to pull them whilst searching for balls in the heather!!) 

Score of the week goes to John Todd who shot a fantastic nett 65 with his gross 79 being the first time he has ever beaten 80 in a competition. And you guessed it he was playing with his new Titleist woods and irons following a custom fitting and coaching with Greg!! After being cut from 14 to 12 he then turned up the following day for a Captain Pro challenge with his partner, Brian Morris, and proceeded to beat us two up!!! 

Second in Div 2 was Chris Smith with nett 71 and third Graham Methold with nett 74. Jamie Potter, who is having regular coaching with me, won Div 1 with a nett 68 and was cut to 4 handicap. Second was a welcome return to form for Geoff Herbert with nett 69, pipping Richard Bolton on countback.

Nick Cobb asked us to fit one of the new Superstroke putter grips with a counter balance weight to his putter last week. On his first outing he had 14 one putts and 22 putts in total, beating his previous lowest by 6 putts, to score 40 points in the Whitsun Cup and win by 5 clear points!

Second in Division 1 was James Connor with 35 points beating Hugo Godfrey on countback. Will Longmuir won Div 2 with 34 points with Rod Curry beating Kevin Parrington on countback with 32 points.

In the Saturday medal 12 members took on the FootJoy Beat Your Handicap Challenge. Three of them played to their handicap to win a second FootJoy glove so congratulations to Chris Smith, Alistair Wooster and Andy Williams. As you can see it's always a painful presentation giving away free product to the members!!!!

The Friday Mixed Greensomes saw married couples working in perfect harmony with a one, two, three for Chris & Brenda Harnett 33 points, Kevin & Tina Thomas 33 pts and Gwyn & Stephanie Davies 31 pts.


 

Congratulations to Donald Leggett who had a hole in one with a 5 iron at the 9th two weekends ago. When this happens at West Hill the tradition is that the lucky member fills the club decanter with whisky and invites all members coming to the bar to have a nip with him/her. Their name is then engraved on the plinth on which the decanter sits. This picture was taken last weekend, one week after the event, and with the decanter still very full - so please assist in carrying on the tradition, take your nip, and toast the hole in oner!!!!!
