Last Thursday the Captain and I were challenged by Mark Randall and Paul Champion. They shot a gross 74 and were 6 up through 10!
However, the Captain and Pro stormed back playing the last 8 holes in one over par and were 2 down playing the last.
With a solid two putt par under our belts at the last, Paul Champion needed to hole this birdie putt to go 3 up and tie Oakes and Sweetzer in the race for the trip to Saunton Sands as biggest winners of the year.
Paul Champion carried on his great form shooting a nett 66 to win the Silver Medal on Saturday. Greg Mackay shot nett 67 to finish second and was cut to single figures and also won the bragging rights at home as he beat his son, Callum, on countback despite him shooting a gross 67!
Division 2 was won by Rod Curry with a nett 70, John Reynolds was second with nett 73 and Andrew Smith third with nett 74.
Callum Mackay played fantastically in the Surrey Amateur at Banstead Downs and Cuddington two weeks ago. On the Friday he won the 36 hole stroke play qualifier shooting one under and one over for a level par total. The top 16 then go through to the Matchplay stages over the weekend which were at Cuddington GC. Callum won both matches on the Saturday before finally losing to the Surrey Captain in the semi-final on Sunday morning so he won the bronze medal. Well done Callum!
Congratulations to Jan Gilkes and Gordon Neilson (Frilford Heath), who won the Mixed Invitation on Sunday with 43 pts. Second were Janet Lea and Steve Gould (Foxhills) with 42 pts, third were Kevin Thomas and Julia Nive (Ferndown) with 41 pts and fourth Jane Kimber and Alan Cranfield (Coombe Hill) with 40pts.
Well done also to Karen Johnson who had a hole in one at the 13th hole.
