Want To Improve Your Putting?
This Saturday we have a special putting demo day before the medal and at lunchtime. Greg and myself will be setting up putting drills for everyone on the putting green, giving free tips where needed and all of our latest putter ranges will be on display for everyone to try. So if you would like to improve your putting make sure you arrive earlier than usual for your tee time or come along especially if you are not playing.
Saturday 9 July - Flightscope Analysis of Your First Tee Shot
We will be setting up Flightscope on the first tee to track everyone's first shot of the day and analyse the "numbers" that your equipment produces (Clubhead speed, ball speed, SMASH factor, backspin rates, launch angle and spin axis). There will be a prize of a West Hill headcover to the person producing the straightest shot of the day (zero spin axis) as measured by Flightscope.
We had two very successful fitting days with Mizuno on Monday and TaylorMade on Tuesday. Lots of members enjoyed trying out the latest technology and being measured by Flightscope and everyone found equipment which gave them either more distance or more consistency. On Saturday 23 July we will be hosting a Free Wedge Gapping Day. Just click here to book your Free appointment and we will measure how far you hit all your wedges on the Flightscope in the Swing Studio ( if you are playing that day it should only take about 15 mins before or after your round and could be a perfect warm up or cool down!!!)
The West Hill pro/am was a fantastic success and there was an exciting buzz amongst the members with world ranked no 37, Matthew Fitzpatrick, in the field. He had a gallery of over 50 on the first tee and many watched him play the whole round.
He won the event with a 68 making eagle on the 17th with a 3 wood second shot to 6 feet which he said was his best shot this year! (Quite something as he finished 7th in The Masters in April!) He said that he loved the course and found it a very tough test and hopes to be back next year if he can fit it into his schedule - it was a 3 and a half hour drive for him from near Sheffield!) Next year the pro/am will be on Friday 23 June so put the date in your diary now!!!
We were even blessed with a beautiful complete rainbow just before the prize giving. Ben and his team should be congratulated on a super human effort, as following a deluge of 3 inches of rain on the Wednesday night and Thursday which closed the course, he and his entire team worked for 15 hours on the Thursday until nearly 9pm and then we're back in at 4am on the Friday to set the course up. And all 204 competitors said the course was magnificent.
This was followed by The Gold Medal and Club Championships at the weekend which was won by Callum Mackay in a sudden death playoff. He tied on 147 (+9) with Jonathan Holden and then won the playoff down the first hole with a 5 against a 6. Gerry Kennedy finished third on 149 (+11) with a 71 on the second day. The cut for day two for the top 30 scores came at 83 (+14).
Ladies' Captain's Day looks like it was lots of fun with Marjory choosing a Scottish theme which the ladies really got behind as can be seen below!!!!
Congratulations to Ilsa Bellion was the winner with 35 points and Gina was second with 33 points and hopefully more pictures to come next week!!!!
Well done also to Kay Bowman who won the weekend medal with a nett 80. Second was Kathryn McKimmie with nett 82 and third Jackie Tenniswood with nett 83. The previous Wednesday Sue Gorvin came out on top with nett 79 beating Brenda Harnett on countback with Kathryn McKimmie third with nett 80.
