Custom fitting

Last week Ken Andrews came to see me about a new driver. As his 84th birthday is just around the corner he wanted to treat himself to some new equipment and to see if we could help with some more distance.

After testing the drivers from Mizuno, Titleist and TaylorMade, the Titleist 915d came out the best.

With a lighter shaft we managed to reduce the spin by an average of 450 revolution and add an average of 25 yards to Ken's drives.

If you would like to try the latest equipment click here for a session in the studio or call the shop on 01483 473172.

Happy
golfing, Greg.

Coaching news

Here is a quote from Darren Warmington

"We won our qualifier at The Grove yesterday, 14 teams entered - 43 points did it! Our prizes included entry into the UK Final at The Grove (world final to be held in Kuala Lumpa), a night's stay at the Grove hotel with dinner and breakfast and 3 nights in a golf resort in Cyprus! The lesson last week was obviously well timed…"

Darren was hitting push shots to the right and hook shots bending left. As you can see in the right picture his right foot was remaining on the ground causing his head to hang back with his spine tilted to the right. This created a swing path a long way right of target. By allowing his right foot to leave the ground and his right knee to move across to touch his left knee he was able to turn freely through impact allowing him to swing the club down the target line for much straighter shots. Members news

Well done to Simon Mead and Ben Fraser who won the Presidents Cup on Sunday afternoon and were presented with the trophy by Past President, Michael Howard.

The pro shop can claim assistance to the winners as Simon's belt snapped mid swing in the quarter finals and we rushed a new Oscar Jacobsen belt out to him on the course as he was finding it hard to turn with his trousers around his ankles! I don't believe there was any rule infringement in adding equipment during the round!!!

Here is a quote from Presidents Cup winner Ben Fraser

"Greg asked me to drop him a short paragraph explaining what an excellent coach he is. I came to see him for my first lessons in about 7 years late in the summer. It's amazing how easy it is to get into some bad habits over time and through observing and making a couple of simple changes (like gripping the club correctly and pointing in the right direction) it is safe to say he made a big difference over the course of the last couple of weekends. I won't wait 7 years to come and see him again…"

Simon and Ben came through against Paul Prentice and Kevin Young in the semis whilst Nick Cobb and Mark Randall came through against Gavin Cookman and Julien Payne in the other semi.

The Norris Foursomes was won by Richard Bolton and James Elliot with 38 points. Second continuing his good form was Craig Kimber with Tom Passmore on 36 points with Mike Coulson and Alistair Wooster third with 35 points.

Congratulations to Craig Kimber who won the Handicap Challenge Cup defeating David Jones in the final. Both players had Game Improvement Programmes last Winter/Spring and as you can see that results in consistent golf all through the season allowing them to win the six matches each required to get to the final!!!!! So if you want to play better golf in 2017 the time to start improving it is now!!!!

The first half of The 36 hole Ferney Cup Final was also played on Saturday. Richard Bolton thought he was one up against Paul Hanley until they discovered Paul had played the round with 15 clubs in his bag so Richard effectively won 2 holes "in the bar" and is now 3 up going into round 2!

Well done to Howard Ashton who picked up a senior major defeating Kamran Etebar in the final of the FC Brown Matchplay. The FC Brown Stableford was won by Adrian Cotton with 37 points. Chris Barber was second with 35 points and Alastair Somerville third with 34 points.

Ladies news

Well done to Julie Wilding who won the weekend Stableford with 37 points. Kay Bowman was second with 34 points pipping Stephanie Davies on countback.

Unfortunately I have had no reports or photos from the Ladies Autumn Invitation last Wednesday.
