Members news

The Buchanan Trophy on Sunday will be followed by the Annual Prizegiving. With only 7 Saturday's until Christmas, tickets for the Pro's Xmas Draw will be on sale in the bar and the shop with the draw being made on Sunday 18 December.

Captain/Pro Challenge Winners Away Trip

The winners of the Captain/Pro challenge for the year, Peter Oakes and Jimmy Sweetzer, were treated by the Captain to two days golf at Saunton with a meal and overnight stay at the Thatch. We had two separate 18 hole matches around the West and the East courses with the cumulative 36 hole score deciding the overall match result for the prestigious Saunton Golf Club logo shirt each for the winners.

The Captain and Pro came from 3 down with 5 to play to halve on day one with birdies on 14, 15 and 16. A lovely meal at The Thatch in Croyde followed by drinking until 1am should have suited Oakes and Sweetzer but the Captain and Pro stormed through shooting 9 under par Betterball on the East so look out for who are wearing the Saunton Logo shirts this Sunday courtesy of The Challengers!

Well done to Rob Guilfoyle who shot nett 66 to win The Old Aldenhamians Salver on Sunday. Was it down to his grip change from Greg two weeks before or his effortless round with his new Motocaddy S1 electric trolley we ask??!! Second was Hugo Godfrey with nett 68, pipping Mike Coulson on countback. Neil Blick won Div 2 with nett 75, with Sam Barkham and Tim Cleminson on nett 76.

In the Club Stableford on Saturday Oakes and Sweetzers' handicaps both went up 1 to 7 and 10 respectively and The Captain was cut from 17 to 16 - UNLUCKY TIMING CHAPS!!!! Well done to James Elliot who won with 38 points and was cut to 2 after being pictured last week with his brand new custom fitted Mizuno JPX900 irons.

Second in Div 1 was Stephen Lewis with 37 points who is making hay before he has an enforced lay off for a new knee next week and third was Charlie Norman with 34 points. Div 2 was won by Tim Cleminson with 36 points pipping The Captain on countback with Mike Sands third with 35 points.

Congratulations to Jamie Potter who beat Stuart Mackie with the last putt on the last green to win the Scratch knockout -The Tappit Hen. This Weekend he goes for the double as he plays Jonathan Holden in the 36 hole Club Scratch Matchplay Championships.

Well done also to Dave Roberts who beat Anthony Wysome to win the Midweek knockout in the final on Friday.

Daryl Ware's Surrey 5's team is playing the Surrey Final v Roehampton GC at Royal Mid Surrey this Saturday. The team also includes Richard Bolton, Alex Morrison, Kevin Parrington and Paul Champion. If you would like to go along and support them or caddy they are teeing off at 10.30am. Good luck chaps.

In the Ladies and Juniors Greensomes Stableford Marjory Horsman & Callum Henderson won with a fantastic 44pts. Lynne Daniel & Andrew Hinks-Finney were second with 42pts.

Course news

As you can see the work has started on the bank in front of the pro shop.

This is going to be a very smart improvement as it will be changed to a gradual slope which will be much easier for trolleys and will be far more appealing to the eye.

In the meantime all access to the course with trolleys is via the path between the first tee and the chipping green.
