The greens are also putting as beautifully as I have ever seen them in January - a testament to all the improved drainage that Ben and his team have put into the greens over the last few years makes them firmer and less susceptible to footprints.

Coaching in The Swing Studio 

Is your grip the engine to swing? Look how we can create more power and leverage with two simple checks to your grip as I did with Sam Barkham this week.

  

In the right hand picture Sam's grip was too high into the palm of his left hand which can lead to slice shots. The club should sit underneath the back pad of your left hand so that you can lift the club off the ground holding it with just your left hand - then release the back 3 fingers of your left hand off the club and it should remain under the pad of the hand. 

IF YOU'RE NOT SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THIS, OR YOU CANT DO IT, THEN YOU NEED TO POP INTO THE SHOP NEXT TIME YOU ARE PASSING AND I WILL IMMEDIATELY DO A FREE GRIP CHECK AS YOUR ENGINE IS LIKELY TO BE MISFIRING!!! 

In the left hand picture Sam's left hand grip is correct and we have also ensured that the heel of his right thumb has remained secure against his left thumb. Look how the clubhead is not now overtaking his hands to give more power and a better strike.

Ashley's Technology Corner Mizuno's New JPX900 Woods! 

It's almost time for the new launch… Mizuno will be sending us their new JPX900 Woods in February for you all to try! 

The New JPX900 uses all of Mizuno's best previous designs to send the ball a really, really long way. The idea around this club is to create a face with all new technology, creating consistently high ball speeds even for poor strikes and mishits. 

The improved visual aspects of the new JPX900 include a much shallower look from address, making the woods sit incredibly easily behind the ball offering us all a bit more confidence. 

The extra bit of technology Mizuno offers is the exceptional levels of adjustability with the sliding weight system built within the club head, rivalling the best technologies from TaylorMade and Titleist in 2017. 

It's so hard to tell you which of the three drivers feel and perform the best because the standard this year is just so high. In the following weeks I will be testing the clubs myself using our 'Flightscope' System to justify just how good they really are. Keep your eyes peeled for the results!

I read that it takes 64 repeated occurrences on average for someone to permanently change their habits. So when last Thursday's roll up was abandoned due to heavy rain, Adrian Cotton mentioned in the pro shop that he was going to Hoebridge to practice. Ashley reminded him that we have a fantastic range, with better Titleist range balls, 6 covered bays, and use of our buggies to get down there. Adrian was still even owed his free bucket of balls - it just hadn't crossed his mind.

Adrian loved the facility and bought a range card for 10 buckets for £25 ( which all goes to West Hill Golf Club towards collection and replenishment of balls!) So if you haven't tried out our range yet come and get your free bucket of balls from the pro shop - this is the perfect time of year on a rainy day to give it a go.

Well done to Rachel Atterbury who had a putting lesson on Saturday and then won the Stableford yesterday with 36 points! Second was Helen Atkinson on countback with Sian Thomas third with 34 points. 

  

In the right hand picture Rachel was sitting very much in her heels which encouraged her shoulders and the putter head to twist too much to the left through impact. By feeling her weight was much more over the balls of her feet ( left picture ) she was able to rock her shoulders up and down causing the putterhead to swing more towards the hole resulting in more holed putts.
