Lesson Review
Everyone knows that the driver is hit slightly on the upswing with a sweeping attack and that the ball position is slightly further to the left in the set up position to promote this. However, look how one simple misinterpretation can change a golfer's swing.
In the first picture Andrew Gibson is actually forcing himself to hit "on the upswing" in the attempt to hit the ball higher. This has tilted his spine back making it harder to rotate his hips freely through impact and has moved the bottom of his swing to a point further behind the ball - resulting in pushes straight right, hooks bending left and some mis-strikes with loss of distance.
In the second picture he is accepting that the left ball position will create the sweeping action for you. Now he is rotating freely over his left leg in the through swing as he turns into his left heel. There is more body weight going down through his left foot into the ground and his follow through feels much lower - resulting in much straighter and more powerful shots.

Last week Richard Owen came for a fitting, he was looking to replace his current Tour Edge irons with a graphite shaft. We started with the Mizuno DNA fitting system, in 3 shots this enables us to see the characteristics of his swing and match a shaft to best suit this.
After trying the best 3 shafts with the latest heads from Mizuno we looked at the new Titleist AP1 and the new Taylor Made M1 and M2. Looking at the data from all of the different combinations, there were a few that Richard hit a similar distance but some didn't have enough spin to keep them consistent in flight.
The one that gave the most consistent flight, spin and distance was the Taylor Made M2 with the new super lightweight steel shaft which Richard felt gave him the most feedback when hitting shots.

Last Friday I played with members Mark Randall and Peter Oakes. We had a fun skins game and unfortunately for Mr Oakes, he developed a strong allergy to them allowing Mr Randall and myself to clean up - let's hope the Doctor can give Peter suitable medication!

West Hill Pro-Am
We need more members teams!!!!!! We are now only 2 weeks away from the close of entries to the West Hill Pro-am. We would love as many members as possible to enjoy playing in this great day at the club.
You can enter either individually and we will put you in a team of 3 to play with your pro, or you can enter as a team of 3. Any member entering with guests will still pay the members team rate of £330 as opposed to the visitor's team rate of £450.
You can invite your own PGA pro to join you or I can allocate you a professional from the PGA South Region Order of Merit.

Sunningdale Members' Day
I have arranged a Members' Day out to Sunningdale on Thursday 5 October which includes 36 holes on the Old and the New courses, breakfast, carvery lunch, evening sandwiches and prizes for £250. We currently have 24 signed up and paid the £75 deposit with a further 4 reserves.
However, to avoid disappointing those reserves, Sunningdale have given me a second date of Monday 9 October in addition. So if we can increase total numbers from 28 to 36, and some are happy to play on the 9th instead, we could potentially have 20 on the Thursday and a different 16 on the Monday.

Well done to
Neil Blick who won the Stableford on Sunday with an amazing 42 points.
Nick Millar was second in Division 1 with 39 points, due partly I'm sure to it being his first outing in his amazing new
Ecco Cool Shoe - the first ever golf shoe with 360 degree breathability!
Third on countback with 37 points was
Kevin Young. Division 2 was won by
Terry Atkinson with 41 points,
David Andrews was second with 36 points and
Rob Andrews third with 32 points.
