I am playing with members this Sunday morning and have one space left - click here if you would like to join us.
Congratulations to Mark Randall, who has comeback from several months off following a snapped Achilles, and won the RN & RM Medal on Saturday with a net 68 and was cut from 6 to 5. With Callum Mackay also in second place on countback it seems the way to hit top form is to spend a week golfing on tough Irish links courses in preparation - which incidentally it was Tom Watson and Tiger Woods do every year on their way to The Open Championship!
Third in division 1 was John Turner, also with net 68 and also getting cut to 5. Unlucky to Kamran Etebar who was cut from 6 to 5 and not even in the prizes. In Division 2 Tim Cleminson won with net 71 with Brian Morris second with net 74 and Gary Clarence third on countback. I played with Gary the evening before so I hope the course management issues we were discussing helped Gary.
The mixed invitation on Sunday was won by Peter David and Diane Gall (Sunningdale). Second were Mike Coulson and Lisa McGowan (Worplesdon), third Karen Duncan and Alan Watkins (The Berkshire) and fourth Kathryn McKimmie and Will Logan (Effingham).
The Open Sweepstake is nearly full so come into the pro shop this weekend for your last chance to enter our fun competition. £5 a player and if your professional finishes in the top four then you could win:
1st Custom fit driver
2nd Custom fit fairway wood
3rd Custom fit hybrid
4th Custom fit wedge.
Good luck to Gerry Kennedy who has entered the Seniors Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl GC and will be playing an 18 hole prequalifying event at Southerndown GC on Monday 21 July where there will be approx 15 places from 120 competitors.
New Member - Keith Stanley
On Tuesday I played with new member Keith Stanley, as well as George Fergusson and Nigel Sillick in a friendly fourball. Here is an introduction from Keith - please introduce yourselves to him and invite him for a game.
" My name is Keith Stanley I am 47 years young, I have run my own Electrical & Data comms business for 15years. I am married to Elaine and we have 2 children William 20 & Natalie 18, we currently reside in Camberley. I have previously been a member for 4 years at Foxhills Golf & Country Club. I have always been a social golfer but never really had the time to become a more proficient and committed player. As the children have become older I now have more time on my hands and decided to look at a more members orientated Golf Club. Having never played at West Hill previously I hade the opportunity to play the course, almost immediately I knew this is somewhere I would love to play golf again. After a few enquires I was lucky enough join the membership in May.
Having been a member at West Hill for only 2 months I was lucky enough to play around with our Professional Guy and 2 other members George Fergusson & Nigel Sillick. As with all the people I have been fortunate to play with I was made most welcome. After a toss up of the balls I was to partner Nigel, a relative newcomer of 3 years against Guy & George a combined course knowledge of 50 plus years, after a nip and tuck round we managed a 2&1 win on the 17th. But as always, the real winner is the course which is in fantastic condition and a very special place to play golf, I can't really think of a better place to be on a Thursday afternoon albeit knee high in the rough after another errant tee shot.
I am looking to play at least once every weekend with the occasional mid-week game subject to work commitments, if any body needs an extra player? I moved from Foxhills with an old friend Stuart Kerr so if any body fancies a 4 ball please drop me an e: mail via the new members database. After a few matches I think our nick name might already be "free breakfast" !! "
Welcome to two new ladies Kerry Cooper and Roslyn Nash who have joined us from Pyrford GC - we hope you have many happy years at West Hill. Congratulations to Diana Marchant who won the medal last Wednesday with a net 73. Second was Kerry Cooper with net 74 and third Ilsa Bellion on countback.
