Exciting developments

We have two exciting shop developments to tell you about this week. The first is that we are now an approved Motocaddy Service Centre for all warranty issues, battery testing and chargeable repairs to your Motocaddy trolley. Our professionals have undergone full training at the Motocaddy National Centre at Stansted and we are fully up and running.

As you can see we are also stockists of all Motocaddy electric trolleys, push trolleys, batteries, trolley bags and accessories too. And remember if you purchase from us then you always have the backup use of our Motocaddy courtesy trolleys whilst yours is being repaired so you will always ha

The second exciting development is the arrival of the new TaylorMade M3 and M4 Drivers with Twist Face technology. As an Approved Taylor Made Fitting Centre we will exclusively have all the demos for you to try from 1 February - two weeks before the worldwide launch of the product.

Surrey PGA Annual Awards Dinner & Pro/Am - Wednesday 28 February, 2018

Thanks to all the members supporting our Surrey PGA Annual Dinner and Pro/Am. We now have 7 teams and 21 members supporting the day. For those of you considering joining us here are the details again:

In my role as Chairman of The PGA in Surrey, I would love West Hill members to support this event which is a vital fund raiser for the Surrey PGA and enables us to provide playing opportunities for our trainees, assistants and PGA members. With your help we will be able to run a Surrey Assistants and Trainees Championship and also the Surrey PGA Championships which West Hill is proudly hosting in 2018. The day includes:

  • Coffee and bacon rolls on arrival
  • 18 hole Pro/Am tournament at your choice of Hankley Common or Walton Heath (New)
  • Play with a Surrey PGA Pro
  • Shotgun start at 12.00pm
  • Gala Fundraising Dinner at Brooklands Museum, Weybridge. (Drinks 18.00pm and dinner 18.45pm)
  • Live evening entertainment and prize giving

Cost

  • £330 per team of 3 amateurs to include golf and dinner for 4 with your Pro
  • £650 per team of 3 amateurs to include golf and dinner for table of 9 plus your Pro
  • £65 for additional dinner tickets

A game improvement pan pays off

Well done Steph Davies who is reaping the rewards of her Game Improvement Programme with me with back to back wins!

First she won last Wednesday in the bisque Stableford scoring 35 points in 40mph winds and then she won again at the weekend - keep it going Steph! Well done also to Jane Kimber who was second on count back on Wednesday and who is also having regular coaching with Greg and to Sian Thomas who was third with 34 points.

In the weekend Stableford Kay Bowman was second with 31 points and Karen St James third with 30 points.

What to do?

If you’ve hit a decent shot which has just missed the green you'll sometimes find your ball perched near a sprinkler head. When this happens, what are your relief options?

Sprinklers

When do you get relief?
Under Rule 24-2, a sprinkler is considered an immovable obstruction and you are entitled to relief when your ball lies on one or when one interferes with your stance or the area of your swing. The ground between your ball and the hole doesn’t count as the area of your swing, nor do you get relief if one is in your eye line - as in the photo here.

What relief can I have?
If you are entitled to relief, you may lift, clean and drop your ball without penalty, within one club-length and no nearer the hole.

Check the local rules
There is a local rule (Appendix 1 Part A-4) that can be applied for free relief when your line of play is affected and you are within two-club lengths of the green. This is sometimes used by courses where putting from off the green is very common.

The new standard for wedge performance

Those of you on social media may have seen that Callaway has just announced their new wedge for 2018: Mack Daddy 4.

In brief, the MD4 comes with micro-ridges and micro-grooves on the club face, which provide surface roughness to increase spin significantly on a variety of shots. In addition, Callaway say this wedge produces the most satisfying feel they've ever accomplished in a wedge. Surely it's worth a try?
