With only 5 weeks until The Masters the time has come for you to get your golfing season organised. Read this newsletter very carefully for some very important dates for your diary.
Yesterday was my last day of my two year term as Captain of The Professional Golfers' Association in England (South) as I had to give a closing speech at our South Region AGM. It has been a tremendous honour to represent West Hill as the PGA Captain and I have been lucky to meet a huge number of lovely people whilst hopefully spreading the gospel about our wonderful club. Following the Surrey PGA AGM I was reelected as Chairman of The Professional Golfers' Association in Surrey.
Many thanks again to the West Hill members for the support of our Annual Awards Dinner which raised much needed funds for the Surrey PGA and means that once again we will be able to run a Surrey PGA Assistants and Trainees Championship.
Next week I am competing in The Sunningdale Foursomes with ex West Hill member Stephen Ross. His mother Jenny is still an active member at West Hill.
If you would like to come over to Sunningdale to watch any of the golf, spectators are welcome and you will be able to see Ross Fisher who won The European Tour event in Africa last week shooting -20. He is teeing off at 8am on The Old Course on Tuesday with his partner, Simon Griffiths, another professional from Wentworth. Barry Lane is also playing with Gary Wolstenhome.
Last Sunday we played a practice round against Sunningdale club professional, Keith Maxwell, and his partner, Andriy Shevchenko, the ex Chelsea striker and former European Footballer of The Year who is a scratch golfer.

The Poker Night review by Ian Fraser
"West Hill's 5th Texas Hold'em poker night attracted its usual assortment of drifters, grifters, members and their friends to a fun evening of tournament poker. This year was definitely one for the visitors, with the main prize list looking like this:
Main Competition Nick Dyer (Guest of Toddy) Plate Competition James Sweetzer (a younger and much better looking version of Jim) Opposite Gender (to the Winner) Prize: Maggie (guest of Mark Batt-Rawden)
The honour of West Hill itself was just about held up by Patrick 'Pro' Knightley, 2nd in the Main Competition, and Tim 'Sonnovabitch' Osborn in 3rd place. At least Tim didn't lay claim to the novice status he espoused 2 years ago. Last year he won. Coming third this time must have been a bit of a letdown.
As usual the whole event was managed with panache by Big Blind Lennie (aka Paul) Lewis, taking some time out from the glitzy world of insurance litigation. He was also kind enough to give some practical instruction to students of the real money game, before departing with their cash. In all honesty, I must confess that none of the winners has been involved in one of my game improvement programmes."
Remember that New Year's Resolution to play more golf in 2014? There are lots of competitions coming up so sign up online.

Congratulations to Ladies' Captain, Gloria Foxhall, who won for the second consecutive week with her team of Val Owen and Jackie Tenniswood with 75 points in the Ladies Waltz - and yes you guessed it - Val had just had a coaching session with me on improving her driving!!!!! Second with 71 points were Marjory Horsman, Diana Marchant & Cilla Shaw. The ladies who attended our first group clinics really improved their pitching and bunker play.
Sign up on the ladies notice board for Guy and Cliff's short game clinics on Thursday 20 March Saturday 22 March
