[* END *] A smashing success Julian Thomas enjoyed comparing the new Callaway Rogue, Titleist 917 and TaylorMade M3 and M4 drivers against his own old RBZ driver in the swing studio. His average smash factor (which is the conversion of your clubhead speed into ball speed) was higher with the new technology proving that the new clubs have more consistency for off centre hits. In addition, the TaylorMade M4 gave the best launch angles and spin rates for maximum distance as well as the most consistent ball flight.
The Flightscope launch monitor is fantastic at calculating averages with each club so that you really can compare to see what works best for you.
Click here if you would like to try some clubs out either in the swing studio, or take some demos on the course or attend one of our fitting days.

Captain's Roll-up Here is a report from Brian Terry: Following the cancellation of the last two Captain's Roll-ups due to the weather, today's competition produced some excellent scores. Nigel Sellars returned an excellent 39 points off his handicap of eight and he was followed by Ed Shanley on 38 points and Kevin Barkham (playing for the first time) on 37 points. Congratulations to all three. The next competition will be on 30th May and then the June competition, on 27th, will be a mixed Roll-up as the Captain has invited the ladies to join the men.

An update from David It was another good week for myself. Monday we had the rearrange Guildford Alliance here at West Hill that both myself and Guy played in it. I came 4th with a 2 over 71 and Guy shot a 72 and came 5th. Moving onto Thursday I had the Guildford Alliance Championships at Walton Heath G.C. In the morning round on the old course I had a bogey free 68, 4 under par for a tied 2nd place. In the afternoon on the new course, it was a slower start with a level par front nine consisting of 3 bogeys and 3 birdies. On the back nine I finished with 2 birdies to finish my round with a 70, 2 under par for a total of 6 under and finished 1 behind the leader in 2nd place. I was delighted with the result and how I played during the day. It was one of the first really hot days and the course was starting to dry out nicely. Next for me is Effingham Pro-Am in mid-May. If anyone would like to play in any Pro-Ams with myself this year then please come in and have a chat. Happy golfing!

Urethane cover? So what... |
A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common… |
Try Urethane with the Z-Star and Z-Star XV Like all tour-level golf balls, the Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star XV boast a Urethane cover, which sets the bar for cover materials. Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots. However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Srixon’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative. |
|
| As you can see on these 50-yard pitch shots, the extra spin from the Urethane cover ball on the right helps it to stop much quicker than the Ionomer cover ball on the left, which rolls out on landing. |
