The Surrey Amateur Congratulations to Max O'Hagan who tied leading the qualifier for the Surrey Amateur with rounds of 64 and 67 for a -11 total at Burhill last Friday. With the help of Callum Mackay (+2) and Lawrence Courtney (+8) they won the Surrey Club Scratch Championship for West Hill for a second successive year - what a fantastic achievement. Callum also qualified with Max into the top 16 to proceed into the Matchplay stages of the Surrey Amateur. Unfortunately they met in the last 8 of the tournament but after winning 3&2, Max went all the way before losing in the final. Well done Max for a fantastic effort and well done Callum. |

Captain's Day Captain's Day was a treat on Sunday with the sun shining and the course wonderfully presented. Everyone loved the team format in groups of 6 which made for a very relaxed day and, as ever, Brenden and Tracey's buffet lunch was a wonderful treat. The Members roared with approval when they heard that they had taken £1,175 off myself and David in the Beat The Pro Challenge and we certainly enjoyed the friendly banter on the tee - if not the result!
The winning team for the day were; Ben Fraser, Anthony Wysome, Paul Prentice, David Mills, Kieran Brophy and Paul Lewis. (Not bad - 2 out of 6 having just had some swing coaching! )
The AM winners were; The Captain, Brent Sercombe, Tom Passmore, Greg Mackay, Alan Arscott and Derek Plumstead. A lovely farewell present to Derek whom we wish luck as he is moving to Scotland with his family and work very soon. The PM winners were; Howard Ashton, Robin Jackman, Toddy, Philip Ryman, Stephen Lewis and Brian Raven.

Going that extra mile for the club Huge thanks to Toddy (pictured above) who is single handedly painting the older water tank in the car park green to match the new one so that it is less obtrusive. I caught him lying flat out scrubbing the bottom with a wire brush and then as I caught him with his brush and roller on his 5th hour of the day, I couldn't quite conjure a smile. |
Captain's Roll Up Here is the missing report from Mike Phillips from last week's Captain's Roll Up: "The May Captain’s Roll up was played in uncertain weather conditions. Fortunately, the rain, thunder and lightning stayed away. The course was in excellent condition. The rhododendrons made a lovely background. The lunch was excellent. The winner was the Captain with 40 points, despite not scoring at the 14th. Ian McColl was second with 36 points. The Eclectic table is led by the Captain, closely followed by Ed Shanley."

Seniors Frank Williams Qualifying Stableford Congratulations also to Stephen Lewis who won the Seniors Frank Williams Qualifying Stableford with a tremendous 40 points and is now hcp 7.6! Second was Andy Elliott with 37 points and third Donald Leggett with 36 points. The fourth member qualifying for the match play stages was Ian Fraser with 35 points. |
Weekend Medal result Well done to Kathryn McKimmie who won the Weekend Medal with a net 75. Second was Kay Bowman with net 76, pipping Liz Hooper on countback. |
How’s your game holding up?

We are currently running our Complete Equipment Solution promotion where we are offering to custom fit you for FREE and give you a FREE after-sales lesson once your new clubs arrive. We’re sure the majority of you will agree that having a distance device on the course is a huge benefit, going hand-in-hand with knowing how far you hit each club. For those of you in the market for a laser rangefinder or GPS device, here are a few options within Garmin’s range to suit different preferences. |
Pinpoint laser accuracy There's one standout feature to Garmin's Z80 laser rangefinder that sets it apart from all others on the market. As well as giving precise distances up to 350 yards away, the Z80 also includes hole maps that are integrated into the viewfinder, which display the shape of the hole and provide front and back distances when you lock on to the flag. |
|
Information at a glance If you prefer wearable technology, Garmin has both GPS watches and bands to suit all styles. The Approach S60 watch, seen here on the left, boasts colour hole maps, hazard information and offers front, middle and back yardages. The other, the Approach X40 band, is a slim, lightweight and waterproof wristband that gives you distances to the green and to hazards, as well as heart rate and activity tracking. |
