The Presidents Cup Dinner was very well attended and we were treated to a fantastic meal from Brenden and his team. The auction was a very lively affair with the 37 pairs selling for over £9,000 in total.
The Weekday Medal on Friday was won by Jon Yates with a net 69. Neil Blick was second with net 70 and John Turner 3rd with net 71. In Division 2 Alex Morrison came out on top with net 75 with David Brown second with net 78.
Smiles of relief for Ben Warren and Jim Sweetzer. (see pictures below) After progressing through to the quarter finals, they thought they may had blown it when they were 7 up with eight to play but eventually won 2&1. Never the less they are now through to the next round. A few surprise exits have occurred, with the favourites Jon Yates and Michael Coulson being knocked out in the second round.
However rank outsiders John Todd and Rod Curry have progressed through to the quarter finals! Not many expected that. Good luck to all the remaining competitors next weekend, seeing this weekend's results it's certainly wide open!
1) In the final of the Parkstone Plate last Sunday at Parkstone West Hill tied 5 matches each with Blackmoor but lost on holes won. It was a great effort in this scratch foursomes competition not only to reach the final but to make it such a close match considering we could not call on at least 4 regulars due to the Presidents Cup. The team was Terry Atkinson, Bill Colvin, Barry Goss, Rob Guilfoyle, Chris Harnett, Bob James, Jim Meaney, Peter Robinson, John Sawford and John Watts.
2) In last week's Surrey Seniors Scratch Championship at Camberley Heath West Hill faired quite well with former Champion Paul Baldwin finishing 5th on 151. John Watts 17th on 158 and Mark Randall 21st on 160. Mark had a great first round of 73 two over par and was lying 3rd overall at lunch. Keith Walters the ex-tour player from West Byfleet won at the first extra hole in a play off after posting 143 for the 36 holes.
This is amazing news- Joseph Wood played in the British under 12 champs at St Andrews and shot 73 and 74 to finish tied 2nd and has now been invited to the World Championships in Pinehurst next year. Congratulations Joseph on a fantastic achievement.
