Better ball striking and a win in the Stableford! Well done to Nick Clarke who has just had some spring coaching with me and won Division Two of the Whitsun Cup on Monday. In picture 1 you can see that Nick has over twisted his legs and his hands have disappeared behind his head. With too many moving parts his ball striking was more inconsistent. In picture 2 we simply created more resistance in his legs. This created a more tightly coiled backswing position with more width with his hands and arms at the top of the backswing. The result - more power, better ball striking and a win in the Stableford! Click here if you would like some help to play better golf. |

Captain’s Day Good luck to everyone competing on Captain’s Day this Sunday. Don’t forget to bring cash onto the course with you if you want to take part in the Beat the Pro Challenge. You cannot lose - any cash you give us will be credited to your Pro Shop account for you to spend. We then hit a tee shot and if your shot finishes on the green and closer than ours, we will double your money. I will be on the 4th tee and Dan will be on the 13th tee. Greg will also be on the 18th tee for the longest and straightest drive. All 6 players will have a go in the morning using a Pro Shop demo club only, and the winners will be measured using Flightscope technology.

Captain vs Pro Tour As I wrote last week, the Captain’s Team had already taken an unassailable lead of 14.5 - 6.5 in the Captain vs Pro Tour to Scotland after convincing wins at Royal Troon, Loch Lomond and Western Gailes. I am pleased to say that the Professional’s Team had a fighting last day comeback winning 5.5 - 1.5 at Glasgow Gailes to bring the final score to respectability - a 16-12 victory to the Captain’s Team. A special mention to Dominic Ellis after making a tremendous eagle nett albatross on day 3 at Western Gailes, he was the unlucky lowest handicapper after John McKimmie, who failed to make a nett birdie on the final day. He therefore holds the “Highland Cow” and must wear it on his driver until the Tour resumes next year. Thank you to Mark Randall who dreamed up this special prize with “The Monkey” on his annual tour.

The best way I can describe the tour is that it was like a West Hill Men’s Dinner that lasted for four days! Congratulations to the Captain’s Team of Adam Salazar, Jonathan Hewett, Kaj Abrahamsen, Rob Pike, James Elliot, David Alvis, Mark Turner, Nigel Sellars, Greg Gould, Charlie Norman, John McKimmie, Gordon Young and Guy Robinson. And also the Professional’s Team of Alan Arscott, Paul Mayne, Dominic Ellis, Julien Payne, Billy Sutcliffe, Tim Rosenberg, Ian Trevers, Riccardo Nardelli, Colin Whitbread, Brian Raven, Chris Salmon, Paddy Gilmour and Stephen Watt who all contributed to making such a great tour. The term 'gapping' is commonly used to refer to the yardage distance between each of the wedges in your bag. We want to break this thought process and get you to think about gapping for your entire set, because any unequal gaps between clubs will have a detrimental impact on your game. |
Gapping at the top end One part of your set that needs careful consideration is how you transition from your irons into your woods. Lots of golfers struggle to hit their longer irons and instead opt for a replacement hybrid or driving iron, which can lead to large gaps between clubs if you're not careful. So, what's the solution? Well, take advantage of our services and professional advice, and we'll make sure you have the perfect club/s to fill any gaps at the top end of your bag. |
What are your options? TaylorMade recognised the problem that many golfers have in this area and brought GAPR to market to help them fix it. There is a GAPR Hi option, which is most like a hybrid in shape and offers extreme distance with a high trajectory. This is followed by GAPR Mid, which is somewhere between a hybrid and a long iron. It offers a slightly lower trajectory than the Hi and is perfect for hitting off tees or off the deck. Finally, the GAPR Lo is for the better ball strikers as its smaller profile provides excellent shot-shaping and workability from a penetrating trajectory. |
