Custom Fitting News From Greg

Over the last few weeks Richard had been talking to me about the need for a Hybrid to fill the gap between his 4 iron - 3 wood & also the possibility of a new 3 wood that he could be more confident with off the fairways. Richard hit a variation of Hybrids but none of these were giving him much more distance than his 4 iron so we started to look into some 5 woods. We found that the TaylorMade JetSpeed 5 wood was the perfect club to fill the original gap & also found that the matching 3 wood was far easier for Richard to strike from the fairway. As you can see from the picture Richard was really pleased when he found out the clubs were in the TaylorMade SALE.

Congratulations to Rob Pike and Brian Morris who won the Buchanan Trophy with 42 pts on Sunday on a countback from Stuart Bosley and Jonathan Hewett. In third place with 41 pts and also secured on countback were John Sawford and John Todd.

Here is a report from Brian Terry about the Captain's Roll-Up:

"The last Captain's Roll-up competition of David Harrison's year was played in glorious sunshine. At stake was the title of winner of the eclectic competition that has been running over the last twelve months. Before that, however, was the result of the October event which was won in grand style by Andy Elliott. He amassed 35 points off his handicap of 6 and, as a new member, he will obviously be a contender in the full competition over the next twelve months.

Both Simon Legge and Neil Blick were in positions to win the eclectic competition and each of them knew the pressures to perform as they had both been in similar situations in recent years. In the event Simon prevailed by coming second to achieve a total score of 22 points out of a possible 25. He did this by coming first twice and second three times which illustrates a commendable consistency of form over the whole year. Not only will he have his name engraved on the Claret Jug but he qualifies for the Old Aldenhamians competition.

The first Roll-up under Andrew Smith's captaincy will be played on Wednesday, 26thNovember.

Our final Captain/ Pro Challenge of Davids' year was played against the two immediate last captains, Philip Wiper and Maurice Hazzard. This is the one we have to win!!! The captain and pro made the most of their good fortune as balls bounced back from trees to the fairway and sealed a 3&1 victory. This gave a very commendable final record to the Captain of Won 7 Lost 4.

Your new Captain, Andrew Smith, is thrown straight in at the deep end as the first challenge this Thursday has come from Peter Oakes and Jimmy Sweetzer. They have requested a "liquid lunch" before the game - wish us luck!! if you would like to challenge the New Captain and Professional on:

Due to popular demand the winter scratch roll up which Cliff set up last year is returning. The dates are as follows Saturday 15 November, Sunday 7 December, Saturday 17 January, Sunday 15 February and Saturday 14 March. Tee off will be at 12.00 from the 10th tee, meeting in the pro shop to draw partners at 11.30am. Anyone can play but everyone plays a Stableford off scratch except the professionals who play off +2. Entry is £10 with half going to the winner and half being shared by the winners of a blind skins game.

In the weekend Stableford, Rachel Atterbury was also a clear winner with 37 pts with Alice o'Hagan second with 34 pts and Julie Wilding third with 33 pts.
