Member news

Represented at the Irish Open...

Member Justin Jones was manning the scoreboard on the 9th green at Lahinch GC where Jon Rahm shot an eight-under-par final round of 62 to win the Irish Open at for the second time in three years. It must have been the pep talk he gave him!

The players now travel to Scotland to play at the Renaissance Club before heading back to Ireland for much anticipated Open Championship at Royal Portrush. It looks to be a great few weeks of viewing!

Ladies Captain’s Day

The theme for Ladies Captain’s Day was Royal Ascot and I absolutely loved the day I thought all the ladies looked extremely elegant in their hats. We played a new format for the competition called - All swap. All the ladies drove and then swapped to each other's balls to hole out, this took a little bit of thought which I believe they all enjoyed.

The winners of the hat competitions were chosen by the catering team, thank you for all your help and the wonderful food. Finally thank you to everyone who took part and help to make it such a wonderful day.

Hands up...

...if the only time you 'practice' your wedge play is when you hit a few shots at the start of your warm-up routine? Sadly, this isn't going to lead to a dialled in wedge game, which is one of the fastest ways to see your scores come tumbling down.

1 club. 3 swings. 3 distances.

Sounds easy, right? Well, it could be but first there are two things you must do in order to start saving shots.

1. Correctly gapped wedge system - What we mean by this is having an equal gap between each club in your bag, so you're never left trying to 'manufacture' a shot on the golf course (this is where large numbers start). Callaway's Mack Daddy 4 wedges are perfect for exactly this reason, coming in a range of lofts from 46 (PW) to 64 (LW) degrees so you have every distance covered with your wedges.

2. Have 3 distances with each club - As per the graphic above, if you became comfortable with full, three-quarter and half swings with each of your wedges, you’ll find that your wedge play becomes seriously more effective.
