Christmas is just seven weeks away and with only 6 Shopping weekends to go the High Street are already playing Christmas Songs!!! So remember if you don't want something from M & S this Christmas then you'd better tell your family and friends where we are. There will be about £2,000 worth of prizes and the draw takes place on the day of the Captain's Drive In and Xmas Shotgun Foursomes on Sunday 21 December.

Last Thursday the new Captain and I had our first challenge from Peter Oakes and Jimmy Sweetzer following a light lunch. Unfortunately, the Captain's first ever shot in a Captain/Pro Challenge was a provisional from the first tee!!!! The Captain battled on gamely with not much assistance from the pro and Messrs Oakes and Sweetzer played convincingly. In a return to the tradition of how Captain/Pro challenges used to be played many years ago to the 18th hole the match score finished 4 down. The Captain will be presenting a prize to the biggest win of the year so I am hoping that Peter and Jimmy are already hot favourites!!!

On Sunday morning I played with new member, Steve Lewes, Daniel Davies and ex West Hill professional Kevin Warn who kindly stood in when no other members could make it. Kevin and Daniel were four up through the 18th green but the professional managed to shoot gross 31 on the front nine to snatch victory with a 2 at the 9th. Here is a message from new member Steve Lewes:
"I joined West Hill in June of this year. I used to be a member at Windlesham, but I have had the opportunity to play West Hill on several occasions in the past, and felt it was time I joined a proper golf club! I am a 22 handicap, but feel I should be able to get below 18 - once I start to get the hang of the course, and play it with the respect it deserves! I live fairly locally, and I'm always up for a game at the weekend. I work in the IT industry. I'm married to Marianne and have a 9 year old daughter (Amelia). I'm a self confessed petrol head - to the extent that I have built a Cobra replica, and I've been round the TT course on the Isle of Mann on a Fireblade. I also play guitar and have a Gibson Les Paul in my collection!"
Three weeks ago I played with Alan, Riccardo and Andy. Here are a few words from New West Hill member Riccardo Nardelli "I fell in love with the golf course and Clubhouse atmosphere. Looking forward to testing my 10 handicap in the various West Hill competitions next year. Also member of Wentworth and Fancourt, The Links in South Africa. Played in a few Thursday Roll Ups and would enjoy regular weekday games."
Well done to John McKimmie who beat Richard Wheatley in the final of the Midweek Knockout last week. Richard should have had his second chance in the 36 hole Ferney Cup final against Brendan Dunne on Sunday but the match was abandoned after 7 holes with flooded greens so watch this space.
Nigel Sillick recently returned from a holiday in Hawaii and sent me this photo he saw on the local course as a business expansion idea for me for the future!!!
"I promised you a photo from Hawaii - a Kauai golf club near our hotel. Maybe you could diversify into new business areas at West Hill?!!!"
Michael's Corner
In the last few newsletters I have been writing about the Galvin Green collections that we have in store. This week I am going to give you something different. I am going to be writing about the SUNICE waterproofs that we have in store. SUNICE are different to most waterproofs, in a good way. SUNICE waterproofs are much more stretchier, meaning it feels like a normal pullover. Not only that but it does what it says in the description, it is waterproof. If you have any apprehension about this I will show you the demonstration in store, and I am so confident in it that I will let the first three people to enquire about them chuck a bucket of water over me wearing the waterproofs! So come in store today and try it for yourself, I challenge you!

Well done to Rachel Atterbury who did the double winning the weekday medal with a net 80 last Wednesday to follow from the previous weekends Stableford victory. Second in the medal on countback was Ilsa Bellion with Valerie Owen third with net 81.
