Welcome Christian We are delighted to announce Christian Doe will be joining us as a new member of staff for Saturdays here at West Hill. Here is an introduction from Christian...
"Hello, I'm Christian, a young sociable man with a newfound love of golf. I would like to think that I will bring my skills of management and meeting businessmen and with the public from my full-time job to the front line at the golf club. I look forward to working with you all. As a single man, I enjoy playing the drums as well as golf and I am involved in charity fundraising through my other love of cars for S.S.A.F.A. - a charity for the armed forces."
Christian has already come down to 10 handicap in less than one year of playing golf and, as an ex ice hockey player, puts lots of power into the ball. Please come in and give him a warm West Hill welcome when you are passing. |

Huge improvements for Gordon
I hear so many members say “I’ve been playing golf too long to change/improve.” I would counter this and say a large number of people would rather stay safe with what they know than change.
Look how easily we changed Gordon Harrison’s powerful impact position in just half an hour from the “chicken wing” position to the powerful extended position you can see in the right-hand picture. If you would like to strike the ball more powerfully and consistently in just one coaching session, click here to book directly on our Online Booking system or click here to talk to us about how we can help you with your game in any way.

Captain & Pro Challenge On Sunday we played our 26th Captain & Pro Challenge in “The Race to Portugal” against James Elliot and Nigel O’Hagan.
They gave us our fifth Foursomes challenge and it was nip and tuck until we holed a fifty-footer for a birdie at the 16th to go 2up and finally finished 3up. This week our challenge is from Chris Smith and Keith Stanley. . | | James Elliot, Nigel O’Hagan, The Captain and Pro |

Men’s Autumn Invitation
There was some amazing scoring in the Men’s Autumn Invitation on Friday with new member Neil Godfrey and his guest from High Post, Kevin Dickins winning with 46 points. Second was Richard Clancy and guest with 45 points and third David Brown and guest with 44 points. With the course in perfect condition and a great lunch prepared by our head chef Tony, the Invitation Days are a perfect way to entertain friends and clients in a very social environment. The next one for your diary is The Spring Invitation on Friday, 15 May 2020. |

|
Here is a report from Terry Atkinson: “2nd and 3rd of October in perfect sunny conditions, as usual. With a three-point lead from the away leg in France in April, the home side took command on day one with a 3-2 win in the foursomes and a 3½-1½ win in the fourballs. With Granville needing to win 9 of the 10 singles matches, the Terry Cup was retained with an overall winning margin over four days of golf on either side of the channel of 24½-13½. Leading players in the home match were Bertrand Fouquet and Terry Atkinson both with two wins and a half from three matches whilst Alan Thorniley took two wins from two matches. Despite the one-sided result, both teams had a great time with one of the highlights being Ian Fraser leading the singing in French!”

Willie Murray Cup
The Willie Murray Cup is a 7 club Medal being played on Saturday, 19 October. Willie Murray was Club Captain in 1929 and is the only Captain on the wall whose photo is a side profile as he sustained facial injuries as a pilot in The Great War.
The reason for seven clubs is because that was his preferred choice and he donated the trophy to be played with this format. He represented West Hill twice as a Walker Cup player and reached the semi-final of The Amateur Championship on two occasions.

The final awaits
Good luck to our Wallis Trophy team of Helen Simmons, Tina Thomas, Ruth Mackay, Claudia Johnson, Jane Kimber, Val Owen, Sarah Langlands and Shirley Couzens who are playing the final at 9.00 this Saturday at Tyrrells Wood GC against Coombe Hill. Fingers crossed ladies.
