Practice makes perfect
Alex Rule hasn’t had as much time for golf recently with the birth of his new baby. However, when time is limited, that’s often when it’s easier to squeeze in some shorter practice sessions, develop and improve your game.
Alex has been doing some great work with me in tightening up his backswing and making his golf more consistent and repetitive.

If you think you don’t have enough time for practice, I guarantee I can give you a simple practice drill to do at home or wherever you can catch five minutes a day that will get you playing better golf without even hitting a practice ball.

An exciting new arrival
We are delighted to announce we have just received the custom fit components for the new Taylor Made P790 Ti which joins the new P790 iron, released last month.
|
The new Ti is the culmination of four decades of golf research by TaylorMade. It is meticulously designed with a hollow titanium body, injection and a tungsten insert, using the most advanced materials to deliver massive ball speed and breakthrough distance. Alongside the new Callaway Epic, we have the two most technologically advanced irons in the world, but with price tags over £2,000 for a 7 iron set, you’ll need to try our custom fit components in the Swing Studio and use the Launch Monitor to see if they outperform your own clubs. |

Buchanan Trophy
Congratulations to the Captain on his year, pictured below he is playing his 209th and final round as Captain in The Buchanan Trophy. Well done to Craig Kimber and Alan Arscott who won the Buchanan Trophy with 38 points. In a very tight affair, they pipped both Jonathan Kent and Andy Tyler, and Stuart Bosley and Paul Hendrick on countback. |

Captain & Pro Challenge
The Captain and Pro played their final two challenges on Thursday and Friday. Match 29 was played against Steve Weait and Gareth Evans in torrential rain. After a much-needed stop at the hut, with the greens flooded and the Captain and Pro 4UP, Mr Weait hoisted the white flag!

| Match 30 John Sawford, Mark Randall, the Pro and the Captain

Then on Friday, Match 30 was Foursomes against Mark Randall and John Sawford. In a well contested match, the Captain fittingly holed a 3-footer at the last for a 1UP victory.
Thank you to all members who have supported and enjoyed the Captain/Pro Challenge this year. 30 matches is a great total and I hope to see many of you in 2020.
Final Tally - Won 18, Lost 9, Halved 3.

This left our two pairs of 5UP winners in The Captain & Pro Challenge in a sudden-death playoff for The Race to Portugal. |

Playing in front of a gallery 100 strong on the 18th Green, Keith Turner coolly cracked jokes with the gallery before almost chipping in for a 4, nett 3. Paul Hendrick then putted dead for a par 4 so Clive Morgan wasn’t required to hole out for par having hit two great shots pin high. This left Dave Roberts with a 15-footer and Keith Turner with a 6-footer for halves to keep the match alive. They both agonisingly slipped by leaving Clive and Paul on their way to Portugal for a four-day trip with the Captain and Pro on Wednesday, 25 March 2020.
I’m sure you all wish our new Captain, George Fergusson, a fun and successful year. The winners of The Captain/Pro Challenge for 2020 will earn places into our West Hill Tour Championship, The Old Aldenhamians Salver. Challengers choose whether they challenge us with Foursomes or Fourball Betterball and here are the first available dates: Sunday, 3 November - Rod Curry & Nick Millar Sunday, 17 November - Sunday, 24 November - Greg Mackay & Mark Turner Friday, 29 November - Please click here to challenge us.

In 2018, only January saw more rainfall in the UK than November. Not the happiest of stats to highlight, but one that shows the inevitability of being caught in a few downpours this month, making a waterproof and spacious bag vital if you want to tackle the unpredictable British weather. |
| Titleist Players 4 Plus StaDry Stand Bag | The name of this lightweight bag says all you need to know when it comes to its waterproof ability. Add in seam-sealed zippers to protect your personal belongings and six spacious pockets, and we think you'll be hard-pressed finding a better option.
|
| Titleist StaDry Cart Bag | Its big brother equivalent has the same waterproof fabric but in a more spacious cart option. We know plenty of you enjoy using an electric trolley out on the course, and we think this might well be the perfect bag to go with it. |
