Keeping it simple
Andrew Trelfa would like to improve his consistency and ball striking. Look how one coaching session improved him from the flat position in the right picture to the more “on plane” position in the left picture. All we had to do was get him more relaxed in his shoulders so that his hands and wrists were able to hinge or swing under the club more freely in the backswing. This one simple improvement created a better angle of swing to attack the ball freely and strike it more powerfully and consistently.

Christmas Foursomes
Sunday was one of the great annual days at West Hill with 100 members enjoying the Shotgun Christmas Foursomes with a packed bar after the game. Well done to the winners Kaj Abrahamsen and Jonathan Hewitt who won the day with 38 points pipping Chris Barber and Nick Millar and Kevin Young and Jimmy Sweetzer by a single point. |

Once again, the roar went up for the Malibu Kings, Ben Fraser and Kevin Parrington. Ben gave a “winners” speech and thanked KP for being so committed to winning the prize. KP then replied that he was open to any offers as he was still looking for a partner for the Hogmanay Salver. |

The Captain’s then had their drive-in with a gallery of 150 members cheering them on. Three huge roars of approval were heard as we probably saw the best three consecutive drives ever, wrapped up with the Captain punching the air with delight. We wish them all a very enjoyable year and I’m sure every member will enjoy supporting them during their year.
After a fantastic Christmas Lunch from Tony and his team, we then drew the prizes for the Professional’s Christmas Draw with Matt Heather winning the first prize of the Titleist TS Driver. Click here for the winners and prizes for the Professional’s Christmas Draw.
Many thanks to the support of all members that enabled us to put up a prize table of over £2,000 in prizes.

Meet the Member
Here is an introduction from a new member I played with last Thursday: "My name is Philip Steen and I recently joined the club back in September. I moved to Godalming over the summer to teach Science at Aldro School. I have been playing for over 20 years now and currently have a 2 handicap. I have hugely enjoyed being a member this autumn and look forward to lots of golf in 2020." Philip often has a Tuesday off so bear that in mind when you are inviting him for a game. I am looking for one more new member to join me in a friendly fourball on Thursday, 8 January. Click here to join us.

Captains' Roll-Up Report from Brian Terry
During Greg Mackay’s captaincy year 80 different members played in the Captain’s Roll-up on one or more occasions and 33 of them appeared in the top five throughout the 12 competitions. Impressively, the average winning score was 38.6 points.
In the December competition, Steve Weait, in his first appearance, scored an excellent 37 points off his 5 handicap to take the trophy. Close behind him were four players on 36 points requiring a countback to decide that Chris Barber took second place and John Sawford (maintaining his excellent form) on third.
The next competition will be on Wednesday, 29 January.’

How old is your waterproof jacket? A recent survey indicated that 60% of golfers are wearing one that is over two years old and if you’re one of them – or if you’re struggling to remember when you bought yours – it might be time to consider upgrading this winter. |
| Lots of today’s jackets come with a two or three-year waterproof warranty, which means that if you’re part of the above stat your jacket’s best days might be behind you.
|
| One that we really like is ProQuip’s Pro-Flex EVO waterproof jacket, which is not only totally waterproof and lightweight but is available in blue, grey and back colourways. |
