We currently have 27 players for the Captain’s Team v Pro’s Team Tour to Yorkshire from May, 18 to 21. We will be playing at three GB&I Top 100 courses in Alwoodley, Moortown and Ganton (two of them having been Ryder Cup venues). We need one more member to make up the fourball matches - click here if you would like more details.

Hogmanay Salver
The Hogmanay Salver scoring was amazing this year with Darren Warmington and Andy Williams storming home with a 5UP win against the course and yes, you guessed it, Darren has been working on his swing with me recently in the Swing Studio. Second was Kevin Parrington and John Turner on 4UP; a great turn around for KP who was picking up the Malibu only two weeks earlier, and finishing third was Gerry Kennedy and Mark Randall who started the day 2UP and finished the day 3UP; a great effort gentleman.

Captain/Pro Challenges
Donald Leggett and Toddy were unlucky to catch the Captain on fire on Friday in our fifth challenge match. Playing Fourball Betterball, he shot 34 gross front nine and would have scored 44 points on his own. I enjoyed watching as we went 11 up through 14 only for Donald and Toddy to keep fighting with birdies and eagles to finally finish 8DN. |

Then, on Sunday we played our sixth challenge against Rob Guilfoyle and a Richard Bolton. Richard chose Foursomes believing it to be the better chance for a bigger win and giving eight shots was certainly difficult. Especially when we made two at the fourth to lose to a nett 1 and then halved the fifth in birdie too. In a very close game with the challengers mostly ahead we levelled on 17 and then the Captain holed a nerve testing short putt on the final green for a halved match. Current score – WON 2 LOST 2 HALVED 2. This Sunday is challenge number seven from Adam Salazar and Dominic Ellis.

West Hill Members on Tour
Don’t forget to send me your photos from golf around the world. Here is a report from Chris Barber: “Lynne and I played in back to back 7-day tournaments in the Algarve ending the second week with the East Algarve Golf Festival; based in Tavira playing five courses including the great Monte Rei, with 77 players and handicaps from 2-28 the best four rounds to count in both a gross & nett competition. Playing the final round at Quinta Do Vale, a Seve Ballesteros "666" course, I managed four birdie twos for in a score of 39 points and won the nett tournament by two shots with 144points (9th in the gross competition). Lynne Daniel also did exceedingly well finishing 11th overall (4th lady) in the nett competition. During the prizegiving, they were saying it was rare for any golfer to get four birdie twos in one round and when they announced the winner they called me Chris "Mr Twos" Barber.” Congratulations to Chris.

Ladies Hogmanay Salver Congratulations to Ladies’ Captain Elaine Watts and Gina Rivett who won the Ladies Hogmanay Salver with a score of 2UP against the course. |

Back to back wins for Gina
Well done to Gina Rivett and Cilla Shaw who won the Betterball on Saturday with 40 points. And yes, you guessed it, Gina has been improving her swing with me in the studio recently. In an extremely close-fought competition, both Jane Kimber & Julie Wilding and Kay Bowman & Jan Gilkes were pipped on countback.

Hands up if you’re still feeling stuffed from the excessive (but highly enjoyable) eating over the festive period... We’re not going to ask anything too strenuous of you this week as we ease our way into the new year so don’t worry! Instead, take a quick look at the image below and see if any of it looks familiar to you.
|
With a new season upon us and plenty of new products arriving in your local pro shop over the next few months (more on this in the coming weeks), now’s the perfect time to wave goodbye to the old tatty golf shoes, the worn-out gloves in a pile at the bottom of your bag, and the golf balls with more scuff marks than dimples! If you’re the type of golfer who keeps on top of their equipment then we salute you but if any of the above rings true, pop by the shop this weekend and give your stuff a winter MOT. We’re always here to help.
