Matt Lawes joins the team
This Monday, we are being joined by our new full-time member of staff. Please pop into the shop when you are passing and give him a warm West Hill welcome.
“Hello West Hill Golf Club, I am Matt and I love golf. I love playing golf, I love talking about golf, I love learning about golf, I love reading about golf, I love watching golf, I love socialising around golf, basically I love golf. Going into the golf industry is a relatively new adventure for me, previously I was in the medical world, but my passion for golf was overwhelming. I will be starting my PGA training in October to further continue my journey into golf. Coming to West Hill Golf Club is extremely exciting for me, a club that is so highly regarded is a great opportunity. It is a great place for me to continue developing my game and golfing knowledge.
Firstly, though and I imagine most of you are feeling the same as me, I can't wait for this winter to end and spring to begin. |

Originally a Dorset boy, I grew up playing most of my golf at Came Down Golf Club. But recently I spent four years in Australia and was able to play many different courses. Several on the famous Sandbelt of Melbourne including the amazing Royal Melbourne. Being completely new to Surrey, I am looking forward to exploring the area and everything it has to offer. Any information, recommendations, invites to play golf will be greatly appreciated. Please come and say hello as I can't wait to meet you all and have a chat about golf. Thanks and happy golfing, Matt” |

On the ball
This is one of the most common errors I see. Golfers sink their weight too much into their heels which prevents them from using their legs as effectively in the golf swing.
I asked Simon to feel the weight was much more under the balls of his feet. When in this correct position you feel as if your thigh muscles and core muscles are much more engaged. Look at how much more athletic this position looks and how much straighter the spine is.
From here Simon was able to use his legs to rotate through impact much more freely creating a better swing path and strike.

All members are also free to use our buggies to nip down to the range via the buggy path so just come into the shop and ask for a key. ‘Drive for show, putt for dough’. No doubt you have heard this one a few times before but considering putting equates to between 30 to 50% of our shots on the course, it also has a large element of truth in it. |
| Odyssey Stroke Lab Triple Track putters |
|
There's some clever technology out there to help you putt better. For example, Odyssey has taken the Triple Track Alignment from the ERC Soft golf ball and combined it with their Stroke Lab shaft to create this stunning range of putters. |
If you're someone who struggles to line up correctly on the greens, come and try Odyssey's Triple Track putters at West Hill Golf Club. Better putting might just be around the corner. |
