I hope you and your families are all keeping safe. As we are all staying at home, I am going to show you all sorts of exercises and drills you can do either indoors or in the back garden to help keep your swing going over the next few weeks.

Wouldn’t it be great when you step on the first tee again to feel that the golf club is not alien and that your body is free to move with speed and balance? Here we go then:

Summary of points:

1. Hold the finish position for 20 seconds (or four long deep breaths)
2. Turn the left hip as far over the left heel as you can
3. To assist this, try to finish with the right knee touching the left knee (you will need to come up onto your right toe cap to achieve this )

Just because it looks easy when other golfers do it, doesn’t mean it is. If you find it hard work, just keep doing it daily and you’ll be amazed how much better you swing through the ball when you are back on the first tee.

Social distancing at its best

Last Sunday, I had a friendly fourball with Alistair Wooster, David Alvis and Jimmy Sweetzer. As you can see below, we were sticking to our social distancing.

In an amazing game, Alistair and David were 4UP through seven holes hitting us with birdie nett eagle at 4, birdie nett eagle at 6 and birdie at 7. But Jimmy and the Pro bounce back with birdies at 9, 13 and 17 to square the match. Well done Alistair who holed a testing 4 footer at the last for par to halve the hole and the match.

Alistair changes his ball flight

Alistair Hancock has made some great improvements. His bad shot used to be a push to the right or a hook left. Look how in the right picture his right knee has moved towards the ball, causing him to swing out to the right with a very high finish.

In the left picture, he has worked on all the feelings I describe in my “Garden Video” above. You can clearly see that when his right thigh moves inwards towards his left thigh that the left hip can turn further left and the follow-through completes the correct circle finishing left of target.
