Who claimed bragging rights in the Shop?

On Tuesday evening the Pro Shop team locked up the shop at 6:00pm and headed straight for the first tee to have a final game with Ciar, who is leaving to take up his new career as a mental health nurse.

We also played a medal for our own Claret Jug and bragging rights in the shop. Ciar and I stormed to a 7&6 win, shooting -7 betterball and the Senior (Old) Pro managed to take the Claret Jug with a gross 69.

Making your life easier

When it comes to looking at Push trolleys, there are generally two types of people, those that are
looking for a new trolley (to replace one of those old rusty heavy metal frame two-wheelers) or
those that are contemplating converting from carrying to pushing a trolley. I consider myself to be
the latter, have carried my clubs on the golf course all of my life and will continue to do so for many
more. But when I have an important round or a long day then I think that a trolley would be of
benefit.

When these moments arrived. I just looked at hiring a trolley, no commitments and
affordable, plus those moments only actually appeared once or twice a year. These events have
become more frequent and I find myself considering hiring a trolley so common, that now the
question has turned to “should I purchase a trolley?”

In the Pro-Shop we have the Cube Motocaddy push trolley. The 2019 model was Motocaddy’s
bestselling push trolley last year and this year’s model has received great reviews. It is simple to fold
down and very compact when it has been folded. The handle height is adjustable and has a very
effective foot parking brake. It has a better roll than any putt I have ever hit and there are lots of
different storage areas. It comes with a 2-year warranty, plus we are a certified Motocaddy repair
centre, helping you keep the trolley rolling for longer.

Changes for the better

Val Owen was making a fantastic takeaway with great weight transfer as her upper body coiled against the resistance of her legs in the backswing. The only problem was that in the right-hand photo, you can see that there was very little wrist hinge. As you will see below this resulted in her arms collapsing behind her head as she tried to get the clubhead over her shoulders.

So I asked her to develop a right angle between her left arm and shaft by swinging her wrists under the club (below-left picture). Look how this helped to develop an earlier completion of the backswing in the left photo with the body and club in a much more powerful position to attack the ball. Well done Val!

Alex Langlands was looking for more consistency in his putting stroke. He had adopted the right-hand photo position believing it felt tension free. However, when I showed him the set up he was astounded at how curved he had become - this is very common that what someone feels is actually very different to how it looks.

As soon as we created a new pre-shot routine to achieve the sound posture in the left photo he was able to rock his shoulders more freely and strike the putts more consistently.

Golf in the spotlight

Like many things in life, it can take a little while to get ‘match sharp’ on the golf course. Yes, we can practice as much as we like on the range or in our living rooms, but taking on the course when every shot counts is a different beast altogether.

Many of us will know this only too well after our first few rounds post-lockdown!

However, it seems as though the PGA Tour players didn’t get the memo. The second week back saw 63s, 64s and 65s in abundance, with Webb Simpson coming out on top with a 22-under-par total through the four rounds at Harbour Town Golf Links – what a golf course by the way.
