There's a new ball in town |
| As its name suggests, this ball is all about delivering maximum speed on full swing shots. What does that mean for your game? Longer carries and added distance without needing to hit the ball any harder.
But it's not all about speed as this new ball provides a penetrating flight off the tee as well as lots of spin and control around the greens. It really is a fantastic all-round package. Plus, it comes in at a great price point! Pop by the pro shop if you want to give these a try. |
| | | Congratulations to our Captain, George Fergusson, on a wonderful Captain's Day. George ripped most of his drives straight down the middle on the first with every team buying his "free" drive and earning £780 for his charity in the process. Everyone enjoyed receiving their Captain's Day gifts of Leeds United colour bag towels (blame the pro for that idea) and the Captain looked resplendent on the tee in Yellow, Blue and White. Well done to the winning team of Ben Turner, Jack Watson, Richard Carlson and Darren Redwood who won the day with 87 points pipping Tim Cleminson, Mike Coulson, Geoff Herbert & Merfyn Roberts by a single point. Holes 1-12 were won by Nick Cobb, Greg Mackay, Tom Passmore and Adam Thomson with 69 points beating Zach Chew, David Jones, Jacob Chew and Adam Chew on countback. The Texas Scramble on holes 13-18 was won by Dave Roberts, Mike Sands, Alan Thorniley and Stephen Thwaites with 18 points beating Julian Thomas, Martin Thomas, Ian Livingstone and Frazer Wilson on countback. One of the biggest roars of approval is normally heard when the pro announces how much money he has lost to the members in the "Beat The Pro Challenge". Well, you won't be disappointed this year as 29 out of 156 members beat me to win £1,100 in bonus money onto their accounts. It was great to see you all out there and I'm already practicing for next year!!! |
| Winners - Darren Redwood, Ben Turner, Rich Carlson and Jack Watson

| Ross Tonna-Barthet, Zach Chew, The Captain and Pro
| On Sunday we had our 15th Captain and Pro Challenge against Zach Chew and Ross Tonna-Barthet. We had a great match which swung to and fro but the Captain was amazing making a birdie nett eagle at 14 and a birdie at 15 to put us in control on his way to a gross 75.The young guns shot a gross 65 but playing the last all square Ross drove unluckily into the pot bunker and the pro's par was enough to scrape a win 1 up. Our record is now Won 7 Halved 2 Lost 6 - Jack Owen & James Thomlinson are next! Well done to Richard Carlson who has been really working on his game with me for the last 18 months. It finally all cam together with an amazing 42 points in the Weekday Stableford and he was cut from 17 to 14. Unluckiest member of the day was Chris Horsfield who scored 41 points for second place with Richard Bolton 3rd in Div 2 with 38 points. Division 1 was won by Mark Randall with 38 points with Rowan Gillespie 2nd with 37 points and Gerry Kennedy 3rd with 35 points. I'm sure you will all join me in congratulating Tom Passmore in his election as The Captain of West Hill Golf Club for the 2021/22 season following Warwick Taylor. We wish him every success for a great year. |

| The Captain and Covid Cup Winner, Greg Craigen
| An informal knockout competition amongst 32 members named "The Covid Cup" was won by Greg Craigen. Here he is sporting his winning "Trophy" - The Covid Cup embroided mask. He very kindly donated all of his winnings to the Captain's Charity as did those members who backed him in Paul Hanley's book raising a total of £350.00. Well done Craig, Paul and all the competitors. |

Here is a report from our Ladies, Captain, Elaine Watts. As our working trip to Tokyo this year disappeared because of Covid, I decided that the theme of my day should be the No-Lympics - so I wore a kimono to welcome everyone to No-kyo and we had lots of Oriental decorations plus flags of every (non)-competing country, Olympic Rings (Socially distanced of course) and even Olympic torches. I had the best time seeing everyone turning up in their amazing costumes and what's more they were all worn for entire rounds! Incredibly lucky that we had such a good start to the day and that the rain held off until everyone was in. Susan made the dining room look beautiful and Tracey provided the most incredible food. The winners of the Waltz were Kathryn, Julie W and Sonja (The Flames) The Alliance was won by Anne T, Sarah and Julie C (Russian Drug Cheats) The Relay by Ellen, Joanne and Lynn L (Olympians) In overall Second Place were the Ski team of Sian, Helen A and Heather and First Overall were the Purple Ladies - Gill, Christine and Philippa Thanks so much to everyone who took part, and who helped - our wonderful Captain George who started everyone off, John and Laura who served the Pimms (which seemed to go down really well!) and all the brilliant West Hill staff who made the whole day run like clockwork, the course look even more perfect than usual and who came to the rescue of one lady in distress - see below |
| The Olympic Torches - Sonja O'Sullivan, Kathryn McKimmie & Julie Wilding

| Olympic Darts?? - Jane Lewis, Michele Martin & Cecilia Fleming

| Matt to the rescue | Here is a report from Ilsa Bellion Subject: British Olympic Badminton Team Drown at the 4th Having completed the 4th hole West Hills past Surrey Ladies President Rosemary Wallis was heard to exclaim “where is my trolley!” Well, here it is!!!!!!!
|
| Simon and Jack
| A valiant effort by Matt was abandoned on safety grounds (no point ruining the nice outfit) but the wonderful greenkeepers rescued the damsel in distress with much amusement to all concerned. “L Plates” to be attached for the next outing on the course for our wonderful Rosemary. |

How does a $15 million payday sound to you? For playing golf?
Dustin Johnson finally achieved one of the few things missing from his CV on Monday evening when he stepped off the 18th green at East Lake GC. Sadly, there were no fans to cheer him on, but DJ won the TOUR Championship and, as a result, the season-long FedEx Cup - the PGA Tour's order of merit. If ever there was a deserving winner, it’s a man who finished the season T2-1-2-1; a run that started at the PGA Championship. Seeing DJ back to his best makes for beautiful viewing. If you’d like to give your playing partners some better viewing on the course, why not book in for a lesson with a member of the team? |
