Sometimes we use our experience to advice against a golf club purchase.. 

Richard Bolton came for the fitting for the driver he won on Captain's Day. He has excellent club head speed at 95mph and a high smash factor giving him 135mph ball speed. However his launch angle was way too low at 6 degrees which is potentially losing him 20 to 30 yards in distance. 

However, it was evident that this low launch was caused more by too upright a posture creating a steep attack on the ball. We therefore improved Richards' body angles, thereby creating a better coil and a shallower swing plane. He immediately hit the ball on a better ball flight and once he has got used to the improvements in two or three weeks we will be able to retry the drivers to find the club which gives him the perfect launch angle to maximise his distance. 

Last week Matt Heather came to discuss his current 3 and 5 wood. He felt that he was getting too much shape in the ball flight and wanted to see if there was something else on the market that offered him a more consistent flight. After trying a range from Adams, TaylorMade, Mizuno and Titleist we could clearly see that the Titleist was much more stable through Matt's swing giving more control and as a massive bonus an increase of 15-20 yards per club.

David Wilkinson "Busted" the most yards gained record through fitting this year gaining 19 yards!!!!! Following being DNA'd we found a shaft which reduced his spin rate by about 2000rpm giving him a far more penetrating ball flight and incredible extra distance.

Congratulations to Ken Schofield CBE who has been elected as the new President of West Hill Golf Club. Ken has been a member of West Hill since 2002 and I'm sure you will all join me in sending him best wishes in his new position. Ken, I'm sure 'The Boys' will be looking down from their Manor and sending you their very best wishes too!

Congratulations to Fergus Mooney who won the Silver Medal with a net 67. Second in Div 2 was Paul Lambdin with net 70 and third John Reynolds with net 71, pipping Tim Rosenberg on countback. In Division 1 all three players narrowly missed out shooting net 68's with Callum Mackay first, Gerry Kennedy second and Alex Paramor third. Good luck to everyone playing in the Club Championships and Gold Medal this weekend.

We have several West Hill members representing us on the Rookie Tour which is run by the Surrey County Golf Union. In round 6 last weekend we were represented by 6 members. In the Under 14's Joe Wood (who came 7th with 40 points), Jason Denham and Ben Whalley and in the Under 12's Will Hewitt, Sam Wood and Joe Gould. Will Hewitt had a fantastic day scoring 48 points to win outright - well done Will!! We would love to see more junior members competing in all the junior competitions at the club as well as in these rookie tour events and even better, attending Greg's junior clinics on a Saturday.
