Greetings from Guy Shoesmith
West Hill Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

TaylorMade Fitting Evening - this Monday 29 June 4pm - 8pm

We still have spots available for this Monday evening.
Are you happy with the consistency of your irons?
Would you like to hit your driver further?
Is there a gap in yardage with your wedge shots?
Would you like a club easier to hit than you 4 iron?

The Swing Studio will be open all evening too so that you can compare the TaylorMade equipment against Mizuno, Titleist and Tour Edge. Click here to book an appointment to help you to play better golf.

TAYLORMADE FITTING DAY OFFER - BUY A SET OF IRONS (7 CLUBS) ON MONDAY AND RECEIVE A CUSTOM FIT WEDGE WITH STAMPING (your initials on it) AT HALF PRICE.

On Monday I played Open Championship Regional Qualifying at Hankley Common from their purple tees. It's a fantastic challenge from these tees and the heather and rough are so thick that you could stumble across a Python whilst looking for your ball!!! Chris Harnett very kindly caddied for me which was a great help in the rain showers, thank you Chris. There were the fewest number of spots ever available with 120 playing for 8 places. I was level par through 11 and playing quite well but a couple of bad shots on 12 and 17 and a stroke of misfortune on 13 put me to four over par and unfortunately out of the running. Michael Watts also represented West Hill at Hankley and shot 5 over par.

Alistair Campbell needed a club for maximum distance from the fairway but with more consistency than his 3 wood. He hit the Adams hybrid so well that it almost went as far as his 3 wood and it went straight in the bag with a smile!!!!!

Here is a great story from new member Chris Barber about the importance of your equipment:
"As you know Guy, last Thursday I finally got all my clubs re-gripped at West Hill. At the weekend I played in (my other club) Pyrford's 36 hole Club Championship and won the Plate with a net score of 3 under par 141 total to win by 3 shots in a field of 60. I had been trying for 21 years in this competition and always failed badly. This year, not one mis-hit shot. Coincidence........ or not??? Thanks for the re-grips."

Click here if you would like to talk to us about checking your grips or your equipment generally.

Congratulations to our new club champion, Callum Mackay, who shot 69 + 76 for a winning 7 over par total in the Golf Medal winning by 3 shots from Stuart Mackie who shot 74 + 74. The other six qualifiers for the Club Scratch Matchplay Championships are Rowan Gillespie 150, Alex Paramor 150, Michael Watts 151, Callum Denham 151, Fergus Gilmore 154 and Gerry Kennedy 155. John McKimmie also gets in on 155 in 9th as Callum Mackay will be returning to his scholarship in America.

The Captain and I have disappointingly had Captain/Pro challenge dates unfilled recently. Is this because we won the Captain/Pro Open at Camberley Heath? Have we scared off the opposition? Our next free challenge date is on Sunday 5 July. Click here to challenge.

Here is a report from Brian Terry:

The June Captain's Roll-up was a very competitive affair with the top six places being filled by players obtaining 35 points or better. In the event Simon Legge ran out the winner with 37 points due, in no small part, to his getting four consecutive threes from the 9th to the 12th holes inclusive. The remaining leader board places were filled by Neil Blick with 36 points followed by Chris Barber, Kamron Etebar, Mike Phillips and Paul Lambdin, in that order, on 35 points, who were separated only after count backs. Chris Barber continues to lead the Eclectic Competition on 18 points with Simon Legge and Neil Blick in close pursuit who are both on 14 points.

Here is a report from Surrey Seniors Match Manager, John Watts:

We had a good win in Surrey Seniors Salver over Guildford today to move into the quarter finals. Result 3 to 2. Team- Terry Atkinson, Neil Blick, Adrian Cotton, Bob James, Tom Keelan, Mark Randall, Doug Roach, Kevin Thomas, John Watts, Kevin Young.

Well done to Lynne Daniel who won the Macmillan Spoons Stableford with 37 points. Second was Julie Wilding with 34pts and third Rosemary Wallis with 32pts. Ladies' Captain's Day is being played as I write and it looks as if the Gods are smiling on Cilla with the weather!
