WEST HILL SWING STUDIO NEWS
Last week Callum Mackay came to see me about his putting, he felt his distance control over 20-30 feet was not as reliable he felt it should be.
As you can see from the picture below left, Callum’s left shoulder is much higher than his right causing a big press forward with the hands & his eye line is behind the ball. Using the left below right grip should help to keep the shoulders closer to parallel to the ground. He also had the toe of the putter off the ground.
This caused Callum to have an inconsistent strike & therefore inconsistent distances on his putts.
Firstly we set about changing Callum’s shoulder angle, this automatically corrected the hands & as you can see from the picture above right the knuckles of his left hand are now on the inside of the left leg. We also lifted his hands away from his body which allowed the toe of the putter to sit closer to the ground.
The end result is a more consistent strike, a better roll of the ball & more putts holed. Callum played over the weekend & shot 67 with approximately 28 putts. If you would like similar results come & have a chat about the next step to playing better golf or click here to get in touch now. Happy golfing, Greg.
Captain’s Roll –up report.
‘The Captain’s Roll-up was played on Wednesday, 29th July in excellent conditions with the course at its best. As a result it was a high scoring competition in which, some may say, the best rose to the top!! Even par would have got you just on to the leaderboard as the top scores were 38 points, 38, 37 and 37. The Captain managed to beat Kamran Etebar on countback with two balanced nines of 19 points, third was George Fergusson on countback over John Gilkes and fifth was Chris Barber. Chris still leads the ‘Race to Dubai’ with just two competitions left to play. The next competition is on Wednesday, 26th August.’
‘The Captain commissioned Brian Terry to create an oil painting of his favourite hole (the 8th) with the intention of auctioning it at his Charity Day on Monday, 28th September. This also turns out to be the favourite hole of the Course Manager, Ben. Brian took the finished painting to the Captain’s Roll-up to see whether it met with the Captain’s approval and was relieved to find that it did and, indeed, that it was acclaimed by the participants in the competition leading to an early, generous, bid already being lodged.
