New practise range
More and more West Hill members are taking advantage of our fantastic new practice range. Last week I saw Merfyn Roberts down there and this is what he had to say:
"I've started using the new practice area at West Hill over the past month and I find it pretty special. Hopefully my golf will start improving, as it needs to, by spending some time there over the winter months. I've used the driving range at Hoebridge for several years as it's close to where I live but West Hill's new facilities compares favourably on all counts - the bays are larger and more comfortable for driving off the mats and you have the added advantage of being able to hit off grass as well.
Furthermore the balls are quality Titleist practice balls, giving you the same feel as you would get on the course. Finally, not only is it set in a great location (though a bit of a walk from the clubhouse) it's actually cheaper than Hoebridge if you purchase the discount card from the Pro Shop.
Altogether a great experience! I haven't used the custom room attached to the practice area as my clubs are relatively new but I urge all of you that haven't seen it yet to visit, hi-tech golf has definitely reached West Hill! "
If you haven't done so yet remember every West Hill Member is entitled to a free bucket of balls to give the new practise range a try.
Pop into the pro shop this week and collect your free token and give it a whirl.
The West Hill Swing Studio
This week Nick Cobb tried the New Taylor Made M1 driver and found it increase his club head speed by 5mph, reduced his backspin rate by between 500 and 800 rpm and increased his launch angle by 1 degree (as measured by Flightscope). The end result was that he was hitting 15 yards further than with his old R11 and the new club will be in the bag by the time he goes to Leopards Creek in South Africa in a couple of weeks.
We also now have the brand new Titleist AP1 and 2 irons in stock (see Ashley's article below). If you would like to compare these to the new Taylor Made Psi irons or the new Mizuno MP 5's or MP25's or you would like to try the awesome new Taylor Made M1 Drivers, fairways or hybrids then click here to book a fitting session.

Titleist 716 AP2 irons
Titleist has somehow managed to improve upon their fantastic 714 product range with the brand new 716's!
What is the difference?
The new AP1/2 irons have both incorporated even more Tungsten metal, moving the centre of gravity lower that it's ever been, arguably in any club-head ever made. This may sound complicated but it's not.
Firstly, by aligning Tungsten evenly in both the toe and heel of the club-head, at impact the club face squares up perfectly, forcing the club-head through the ball and producing extra speed.
Everyone looks for that extra few yards of carry in the winter months which is exactly what Titleist have been able to provide for its customers. This low centre of gravity creates a high trajectory ball flight and being able to achieve this without losing forgiveness has proven a great success!
TOP SECRET: Titleist has gained exclusive rights to use Dynamic Gold's 2016 shafts. Instead of each club having a similar shaft weight, the shaft actually gets lighter as you work from the PW to the 3i, resulting in more speed and distance!
Coaching after dark
As the nights start to draw in remember that we can now coach after dark in the Swing Studio using the simulator. If you would like some coaching with me between 5pm and 9pm on a Wednesday evening after work or at any other time then click here to get in touch.
This week I took David Duncan, David Harrison and Kaj Abrahamsen to the Sandwich Links Festival played over two days at Princes and Royal St Georges.
We played a practice round at RSG on Sunday afternoon, then the first round of the tournament at Princes on Monday. The team shot a brilliant -11 to be in fourth place and I shot level par 72 after being 3 under par through 13 holes - Grrrrrrr!!!!!!
Then on day two at Royal St Georges we played in a cold 25mph North Easterly wind. The best pro score of the day was +2. I was +1 through 12 holes starting from the 10th tee but four three putts in five holes and a lost ball at the last put paid to my challenge as I slipped from second to eighth place on the leaderboard. The team also struggled over the final 6 holes and we slipped to a respectable 11th place.
However, it is a great tournament and the team enjoyed it thoroughly. Particularly when they realised I had left my jacket and tie in my car in the changeover to David's at Virginia Water and the RSG steward had to kit me out in lost property (see picture) so that I could enjoy the fantastic RSG lunch.
I have 6 places left to join us for the members say out at Royal St Georges on Tuesday, 1 December. Playing in fourballs, coffee and bacon rolls, 18 holes with prizes for for individual and betterball, and the famous 3 course RSG lunch for 115. Click here to join us.
The Surrey Seniors Salver
Here is a report from John Watts, match manager for The Surrey Seniors Salver
"Just to let you know that we lost in the above yesterday at Hankley. It was close but we couldn't manage 3 final victories in a row going down 3 to 2 against RAC Epsom. Terry Atkinson, Neil Blick, Stuart Bosley, Kamran Etebar, Bob James, John McKimmie, Jim Meaney , Rob Pike, Doug Roach and John Watts were the final team."
I'm sure all West Hill members will join me in congratulating John and the team on a great effort in defending the title and an amazing 3 year run of form!!
