Here is what West Hill member, Chris Smith, has to say about our new practice range
"I use Pine Ridge and Windlesham practice areas and now more and more West Hill's, you have more space per bay than Pine Ridge and more undercover bays than Windlesham, the grass area is open to use on a regular basis which is good for a more "real feel" approach to practicing. The balls are of good quality (brand new Tiltleist NXT Tour) and give a good guide to distance and flight, with a nice long flat target area you can gauge better the distance you are hitting. All in all I can recommend its use, but no rush because I like it nice and quiet as it currently is!"
See this picture of a visiting society queuing for practice bays this week.
Will we get a queue of members waiting to warm up like this I wonder???
Here is an introduction from our new Saturday member of staff :
"For those of you who I haven't already met over the past couple of weekends, my name is Ryan Coles and I will be working in the Pro Shop on Saturday's. I'm currently studying for a Degree in Golf Management at Merrist Wood College which I started this year after achieving a Diploma in Golf Management over the last two years. Back in May this year I completed three weeks of work experience within the Pro Shop so some of you may remember or recognise me, but I hope to get to know you all much better over the coming months whilst I'm working and around practicing at the club. I very much look forward to working within the Pro Shop team and getting more involved in the Golf Club."
Please drop into the shop this Saturday and give Ryan a warm West Hill welcome.
Swing Studio News
Here is a picture of new member Simon Cavey picking up his new Taylor Made M1 driver, fairway and hybrids and his Mizuno JPX irons
TaylorMade M1 Fever hit West Hill this week with two more orders of the amazing new driver used by Jason Day and Justin Rose. Derek Plumstead found the carbon fibre head incredibly forgiving and gave him 20 yards more on slight mis hits whilst Andrew Straszewski found an extra 20 yards due to reducing spin rate by 500 rpm and improving launch angles as measured by Flightscope. However, you won't find the optimum set up for you without our help as Derek needed the higher launching shaft with more loft and mid spin whilst Andrew needed the mid launching shaft with low loft and low spin settings.

Ashley's Product news
New TaylorMade M1 Fairways
After years of research, TaylorMade believe they have developed the best sliding weight technology on the Market. The new M1 Fairway clubs have been designed with two 15g sliding weights, positioned along the clubs front track (Just behind the face). This allows ultimate manoeuvrability to personalise shot shapes and optimise performance through consistency.
Similarly to the new M1 Driver, which was explained last week, the carbon fibre crown design really does help to both increase club head speed and optimise ball trajectory. This mixed with an adjustable shaft design allows you to vary the loft of the club by up to 4 Degrees!
The available lofts:
-15.5 Degrees (3 Wood)
-17 Degrees (3HL Wood)
-19 Degrees (5 Wood)
Winter's coming and it's time to gear up with some equipment that'll help you enjoy the rest of the season.

Swing Studio Coaching News
Peter J Robinson came for a check up on Flightscope to see if the driver he purchased a year ago was producing the correct spin rates. The numbers were all correct but I addressed an issue with his posture and look at the huge improvement in just 15 minutes. The result just two days later was that Peter tied the winning score in The Old Aldenhamians Salver - and who says coaching doesn't make you play immediately better!! See Picture of Peter Robinson - which is before and which is after??
Remember I am now coaching after dark on the Simulator in the Swing Studio from 5pm to 9pm most Wednesday's for those who would like to improve their games after work midweek. Click here to book some coaching at any time.

The Old Aldenhamians Salver was incredibly close with four players tying on 69. Peter J Robinson finished fourth on countback following his coaching (see above), Simon Legge third and was cut to single figures, Rob Pike continued his amazing year with second and was cut to 8 but the winner was Max O'Hagan who was cut from scratch to plus one!!!!! For those of you marking his card in the future he now loses a shot on hole 9 ( stroke index 18) so it's two Stableford points for a birdie or one for a par!!! Merfyn Roberts won Division 2 (obviously due to his use of the new West Hill Practice Range as reported last week!)
Congratulations to David Jones who won the midweek knockout final, playing well under his handicap ( following a coaching session the previous Saturday!!!) Well done also to Alex Forbes on reaching his second final of the season (Presidents Cup too) following his hip replacement last year.

Junior News
News from Junior Organiser, Jonathan Hewett. "During school half term week the Juniors have a "Mini Open" on Monday 26th. We have invited players from local clubs to experience West Hill and play some competitive golf. We also hope to attract some new members as the players experience our practice facilities and the challenge of our course.
The Juniors are also playing a friendly match against Worplesdon on Wednesday 28th. So far we have a team of four but need 2 additional players. This is an excellent opportunity to experience match play golf - please let Jonathan Hewett know if you are available.
Lastly, we have an excellent pipeline of good young players at West Hill but are always on the lookout for new members, particularly in their teenage years. We offer a high standard of coaching, the best local practice facilities, our course but most of a welcoming and supportive club membership. Contact Jonathan Hewett for further details.
