Men's Captain & Pro Challenge - The Race To Enville

24 October 2024

On Tuesday we were challenged by George Cassie & David Alvis at Rye Golf Club. On a beautiful warm, sunny day with the course immaculate, we had a very tightly contested game until the captain and pro made 2 on the 5th (our 14th hole) and then par on the 468-yard 6th hole to go 2 up with 3 to play.

But our opponents won the 7th with a par then made a fantastic up and down from 60 yards on the 8th with Mr Alvis holing an 18-footer for par nett birdie to square the match. On the final hole, the pro splashed out of the bunker dead for par but Mr Alvis rolled a long swinging putt from off the green to four feet and George hole the nerve jangler for another nett birdie to steal the match on the last green - a great comeback leaving us shell shocked!

After an excellent lunch, we managed a small revenge with a 1 up win on the afternoon 9 holes but they were still smiling at the end of the day.

So after 15 challenge matches the two pairs tied in The Race To Enville are Tom Passmore & Kevin Young and Phil Edwards & Ian Powell. They will be playing a sudden death playoff up the 18th hole immediately after the Buchanan Trophy this Sunday lunchtime so please take your beers onto the patio after play and give them the full gallery as they approach the 18th green.
